The crack “RPF RIP Squad”...those stalwart members of the community who rush to post the most recent “hot off the press”news of the passing of the latest celebrity, appear to be asleep at the wheel on this one? (I could not find any “RIP threads” on this topic…)

Arguable a more impactful person on contemporary history than most of the celebrities profiled within this forum:

I had mentioned some on the Star Wars thread, simply because I didn't want to create a whole new thread. (In hindsight I should have.)

My father and I both loved history of the Apollo program. Apollo 13 was one of our favorite films to watch together. And we would watch the documentaries put out. A few years ago I showed him that new one on Apollo 11, he really like that.

More of our history, and our youth passing by at and alarming rate. Ask most these days, “Who was Jim Lovell?” and you’ll likely get a who’s that? response. RIP :(

Thanks for starting the post - I was thinking the same thing yesterday but didn't follow through.
Jim Lovell seems by all accounts to have been a real nice guy - in addition to amazing accomplishments.
Not just Apollo 13, but perhaps more importantly Apollo 8 - the first crewed spacecraft to leave earth orbit for another body.

His Gemini 7 and 12 missions (with future Apollo 8 Commander Frank Borman and Apollo 11 Buzz Aldrin) were significant as well, building towards the moon landing with the first successful Rendezvous and long duration mission that Frank Borman described as "living in the front seat of a Volkswagen for two weeks". Of course, Gemini 12 was key with Aldrin successful space walk.
RIP Jim Lovell - I hope you experience every day with Moonrise !

A passing of this significance, we took a vote and agreed to wait for your undoubtedly stellar obit ;)

I don't think it's a coincidence that we've had a full moon the past few nights :)
