Jesse's Guy Daft Punk Helmet

Hi , so like many others, i too was inspired by Volpin's build. So inspired, I decided to make my own! =) My goal is to get the helmet to look as nice as possible, but also keeping it as cheap as possible. :confused So i bugged my dad about it and he gave me his 18 year old biker helmet >;)

my Flickr set (all photos) -will be updated as i get further: Daft Punk Helmet Build - a set on Flickr

So i started with this beautiful 18-year-old helmet NOTE: it shouldn't look ANYTHING like this by the time im done.. =/: (click spoiler to view)

-we took out the inside including the Styrofoam, lining, visor, etc.. and
taped the old visor to the Styrofoam making the perfect shape for the real visor.
giving this:

Then i used a dremel to take out some of the styrofoam so the old visor would slip in nicely. We later used silicone to glue the visor to the styrofoam. (no pics) then we tried the first coat of bondo (silicone was too hard to work with)

after HOURS of sanding (by hand) and 3 more coats of bondo; we came to this:

and after some fine sanding:

Beautiful :lol

(current time spent: about 3 months of barely any work -cuz school, sports, etc. =()
It's all ready to be marked and chopped up and later be vacuum formed. I'll chop it up and maybe try my first attempt at the vacuum former tomorrow.

meanwhile; i'm still learning about the lights and stuff- (trying to be cheap as well..) we bought 100 LEDs on E-bay for about $7 (sucks being in hawaii -lol)
and i plan to buy more LEDs along with some other items for the helmet...

so this is where i am at the moment... :confused (sorry for spelling/grammer)

and i have a few questions by the way :confused
Questions:
-Can an Arduino Uno be used to program all LEDs on the helmet?
-Have any guides or help for learning LEDs and all that kind of stuff? :confused
-And could i have the lengths of things like: the D-shape on the side of the helmet; length of the visor from bottom- to top?
-any help would be much appreciated D;
I'm VERy new to this and i'm trying to make due with what i have. :confused
anyways; will post more soon!
++(comments, constructive criticism welcomed!) :)

EDIT**: after seeing all the awesome pepakura builds; i'm wondering if i should abandon this project or not... =( idk........

Looks like you're off to a good start!

You're approach is similar to how I made my "Halloween Quality" Guy-Man helmet a few years ago, except I didn't bondo my visor. I kept it clear so I could see out of it, and save myself from having to vacuum form a whole visor. In the picture bellow you can actually kinda see my face through the tint.

That probably doesn't help you very much but I just thought I would share, just in case!

wow that's amazing! especially for using already-made helmets! i'm starting to get the feeling i'm doing this all wrong at this point though. especially after seeing the pep helms and how easy it looks to make 0_0 idk... anyway, thank you for sharing! at least now i know it's possible to make a nice helmet out of a normal helmet. =)
