One of the few dead person threads to get a woohoo.
Didn't realize he was even that old.
Never cared for the show anyways.
He was probably one of the first "reality" talk shows from back then.

I also never got into his schtick but feel no joy for his demise.
The millions of fans that watched and supported his show for 27 years were a far bigger problem than he was.

Before the talk show he was the mayor of Cincinnati. He was in office when Kenner released Star Wars figures, here is a photo of him receiving one of the first sets.
Springer served as a bit of a messenger IMO.
He probably wasn't a great guy himself. But he arguably did the mainstream a service by forcing everybody to confront the fact that his guests exist. We tend to get into our nice mature healthy social bubbles and lose track of the bigger human kingdom.

My mom never wanted me to watch his trashy show. So, sometimes I would change channels to see what the tantalizing fuss was all about. Garbage. Even as a kid, I thought this forbidden show was dumb. Give me my after school cartoons instead.
