I can't find anything news statements online to confirm the above talk radio statement. So I am not sure if that is legit or not. I am taking it with a grain of salt until I see something official.

So far, this line of thought hasn't been officially published. It's an on-going investigation. Definite toxicology will be ready in a few days.
Well the report is out. Hi wife died of a virus days prior to him passing.

I was jest reading about the circumstance. Pretty grim all around!!! The wife died up to a week prior from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, and Gene Hackman from heart disease and advance Alzheimer’s days later. Probably incapable taking medication or even feeding himself due to the Alzheimer’s. You would think someone in that condition, with that much money would have private nurse.
It sounds like Gene died because of dementia.
His wife's body was on the floor and he was too far down the cognitive slope to call for help. That probably means he was too diminished to take medications by himself, too. That probably led to him dying a week later from heart issues.
Their deaths were a bad scene. It's not how anybody wants to spend their last few days.
But, putting myself in Gene's shoes, I might not have wanted to survive this incident if I had the choice. Severe Alzheimers is bad scene that never ends. He was 95yo. His longtime wife & caregiver had just died.

The odds of this was astronomical. Only about 7 cases occur per year in NM. Only 42% of all cases are fatal.

The elephant in the room is that his two daughters were estranged to him. If their relationship was normal, they would've alerted the authorities for a wellness check way before anything dire would've happened...that is a compounding factor into this sad and undignified end
