Jedi Robe

I was looking at ebay last night for a jedi robe and i came across a couple postings. One only showed publicity stills from the movie and none showing the actual robe they had made, which made me want to move on because who knows if they are telling the truth when they say they are screen accurate. The other had pics but i was iffy about the quality.

What i was wondering is if anyone has any opinions on the two postings or have bought a robe from either of the sellers and can vouch for their quality. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

The first seller is costumebase. Meh.

The second one, I have never heard of. Hopefully someone else knows something about them.

However, for eighty bucks or so what kind of quality do you think you'll get?
At least the second seller has a wool version for $180, and that one might be passable. The fabric's texture is very important to the look of a Jedi robe.

The first one has pics of the actual piece and they're all wrinkled and looks quite flimsy even though it says it's not. Also I would guess that there is no wool in that fabric like they say there is as wool isn't usually washable lol. I don't know of any fabric that is cotton, polyester and wool either. More then likely it's just cotton, especially judging by the wrinkles. Jedi robes take a lot of fabric so cotton is definitely the way to go I guess if you're really trying to do one on a budget but it doesn't flow like it should. As a seamstress if I were to choose I would get the 2nd sellers wool robe for $180. It looks pretty nice and is very full. As long as you receive what is shown in the pics I'd say you would be getting a pretty good deal actually. I don't know who else makes jedi robes out there but again....if I had to choose between them.

You can also try just looking up seamstresses and costumers online to have one custom made to see if you can find something in between price range/fabric.

Honestly, I think this would be the best option. I've only once bought a fabric or a fabric costume piece without having a sample of the material in hand. That was because it came with the recommendation of those on this forum and that is good enough for me.

I think both should be kept clear of; costumebase quality isn't wonderful and, as you say, there aren't any pictures of the second which normally sets alarm bells ringing.

As for prices, you may end up scoring some top quality fabric for very little, get someone to sew it up and have a high quality robe for a very good price. At least by being hands on with it you can make sure you get what you want.

I contacted the seller of the second listing and she sent me some pics, I'll post the ones i think is the best view of the robe for some comment on the quality.

Just as a warning, that second seller has been fraudulently using photos of my friend Dan Bergren (the new photos they sent you) and his home made costume for years. You will NOT be receiving anything close to those pictures.

Thanks, Dan. This is Dan Bergren, posting on my girfriend's account. My first run-in with this was several years ago when somebody going by the ebay name "Sithworld" (the same one from this listing) was using these exact same photos to sell what looked like cheap, polyester, Rubie's Jedi robes. Obviously, I contacted that person and demanded that they stop using my photos, to which they replied that maybe we could "work out a deal" if I would allow them to keep on using my photos. Since the robe in the photos was in fact my own custom, hand-made, cotton flannel robe I had no intention of allowing them to continue using it to sell their inferior product, under any circumstances. After I insisted that they take my photos off of their auctions, they responded by switching them with production photos of Ewan McGregor in costume. All of the information on his/her website appears to be exactly the same as it was several years ago, and it is obviously and intentionally misleading. Somehow I'm never shocked by how low some people will stoop to push their wares on the unsuspecting public.

I would warn everyone to stay clear of this seller, or any similar sellers, and I welcome everyone who'd like to to please contact ebay regarding this person's continued fraudulent use of LFL's photos.

Thanks for saving me from making a huge mistake everyone, i appreciate it.

Awesome robe Dan, kudos.

I went to amazon to look at the reviews for the Rubies Super Deluxe Jedi Robe and the general consensus seems to be they are awesome. Since i'm not dead set on buying an ultra accurate jedi robe, i think i will end up getting one of them for myself. It's only going to be for halloween anyway, so that's only a few hours use and then its into the closet.
