He’s certainly going to be busy between filming Dune 3 and pre-production of what he always thought of as his ‘dream project” - a James Bond film. Now we need an actor

I don't know why they didn't wait and announce the director and actor all together. But Denis Villeneuve is a really good choice. He would have been my second pick after Nolan. Which I still don't understand why they didn't get Nolan as his Odyssey project should be finished before Dune 3 which hasn't even started filming.

But I thought Blade Runner 2049 was almost as good as the original movie. Really good actresses too. I'm getting kind of excited especially if they have Villeneuve for more than one Bond film. But we'll see. To get a modern Bond restart right, at least to me, it can't be the sort of stuff that we had previously.

He’s also doing early preproduction for a Rendezvous with Rama film. He’s going to have clone himself or something.

I wonder why Nolan didn't do it. He's had a longtime interest in doing a 007.

Could be a lot of things. Nolan is used to getting his own way and being paid A LOT for it. They could probably get 2-3 movies with Villeneuve for the price of one with Nolan.

Nolan is also pretty far into his creative career. He might be past the time of wanting to do a straightforward 007 movie. (Spielberg was the right guy to make 'Indy' in the 1980s, but by the 2000s he was creatively in another place.) If Nolan is still interested in the project today then he might want to put a strong spin on it. Amazon probably wants to do something pretty standard.

I get a laugh when I hear about studios giving the final cut because I always remember this scene from Scream 3.

But anyway, if Amazon was giving Nolan final cut, I don't know why he would still pass. That's pretty much everything to a creative director. If they are giving final cut, I'm sure Nolan would have control over just about everything else. We'll have to wait for a good reporter to ask if it's really true. I believe the article also said that Villeneuve so far is only up for one movie. So perhaps there was some internal conflict that we'll find out about maybe between Nolan and the two producers.

All I know is, I'm sure every Bond fan had a happy moment when they saw the snow scene in Inception. The Bond series hasn't had a big battle scene like that since I believe The Living Daylights.

That's what I suspect. The studio must have disagreed with Nolan on some ground-up issue. Either that or it's money, which I think may be a big factor. Nolan pocketed something like $100m from 'Oppenheimer' between his salary and profit points. Every dollar he gets is one that the studio gave up.

Nolan might also have refused to sign up for multiple sequels. He did 3 movies for Batman, but that trilogy started 20 years ago when he had a fraction of the clout he has now. Amazon might be thinking "If we can't get Nolan for several movies then we might as well go with somebody else from the start."

This stuff is similar to the issues with 007 actors. Henry Cavill is probably not in the running to be the new 007. He would be great in the role today, but he's not the best choice to build a future around. He's already famous for other roles. He gets pretty big paychecks. He would age out of 007 too soon.

Rule of thumb for choosing 007 actors: "If the public is saying a certain actor would be great in the role, then he's probably to old & established for it already."

Yes. That scene had 007 written all over it.
