Jack Sparrow Frock Coat Buttons - I Think I Found Them

I'm going to start working on Jack's frock coat and I'm wondering what anyone else might have used for the buttons (see below)? Since there are almost 50 buttons on the coat, I don't really want to spend $3 or more per button (which is all I seem to find that's even close to the real buttons). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Randy

Re: Jack Sparrow Frock Coat Buttons

I ended up ordering mine from a German website that was mentioned in one of the CJS frock coat threads. $75.00 for 54 (she through in some extras) solid brass buttons.

Now I just need a frock coat!!!:cry

Those are a little flat compared to the movie versions. I ordered something similar for my first frock coat from JAS Townsend. Solid brass and I used ammonia to age them.

After aging:

The buttons I just purchased form the German website. Found this info on one of the old threads here at RPF! I purchased the 20mm versions because they are slightly below 1 inch to match up perfect to the movie version.

The nice thing is that they are solid brass and already aged!

Do you have the buttons from Germany? If so could you post pics of them? Depending on how the ones I ordered look, I may end up ordering the ones from Germany. Did you call or just e-mail them? Do they speak English? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for your help.

She types English fairly well and ships rather quickly. Shipment is by weight and is a bit expensive. It think I paid a total of 50 Euros with about 10 Euros shipping.

This is the pic from the website. I made a mistake. They are actually 23mm which is the largest she has!

I will take some pics of mine and post them later tonight!

Email her and tell her your looking for the CJS buttons that another CJS ordered recently. She will know exactly what you're talking about.

She told me that in Europe many people purchase from her due to the re-enactment groups that are in Europe that want piece period costume materials. She is going to go live soon on her English website. I used Google Translator to get a better understanding of what she had on her site. Put the website URL in Google search and it will bring up a translated version. Not perfect but you can now read the info....somewhat!

csharding, I actually like these buttons (from the same site) more than the ones you've purchased - they've got a bit of a lip on them. May not be perfect, but I think the exaggerated lip adds a bit more character:

Haven't ordered 'em yet, though. At .95 euros apiece, it'd be somewhere around $1.31 for me - not too terribly pricey. Perhaps I'll wait until the English version goes live.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to wait and see what I think of the one's I ordered and then decide if I want to get the one's from Germany. It does look like the first set do have a small lip on them. Is that correct?

the price is the same...

ist the price on simons page for the complete set of buttons or just for aging them?!? :)

So better take these buttons or from the german website?!? I think from the german website I will pay less shipping, just need to know what is closer/what looks better...

Maybe someone who know both sorts of buttons can tell me...

the price on simons page is for fully weathered buttons
check your reasources before you make a comment mate
i know what im talking about

Also, Simon's shipping charges are incredibly low, if I remember correctly. I ordered waistcoat buttons from him, the shipping was something like 2 pounds, and I got them in 3 days.
