What do you think...?

Are you telling us that the toy has the same dimension and shape of the MR one?
(BTW MR is the one on the top of the last pic, or am I wrong? :) )

Also, if you did a repaint/coversion of the toy, I have to say that is really IMPRESSIVE. :eek

Hmm...so did you take the electonic toy version and prettify it? Darn fine job you did there, I was hoping to do something similar.

P.S.: Yours is on top, on top, and on the bottom in the three sets, respectively. :p

EDIT: Curse you, Ramiel, for your lightning-fast typing. *shakes fist*

Would the real MR please stand up. ;)

I think I personally recognize the top one. ;)

MR is the one with the extra greeblies on the bottom I think.
But dang, that is mighty fine job :eek I may have to drop the 20 dollars or so for the toy now.

Yes, fine sir, you do.

Yes, the MR is the one with the Hammer in the raised position. Here is the story:

After being on a POTC toy conversion kick inspired by a great thread on the POTC compass, I put some thought to this toy. I quickly began to realize the toy had VERY similar dimensions and porportions. So I started the project...

First I split the toy in half (unscrewed the halves) and filled it with lead shot for some weight and a solid feel.

Cool thing is its within two ounces of the MR, and it still fires, making a "Kachow." sound effect. ;) I reunited the leaded halves, filled the screw holes, sanded back some of the over done "wood grain", and sanded out the seam.

Then things took a bit of a turn. ;)

After primering the gun, I realized there was a detail piece missing just forward of the trigger guard (present on the MR; not on the toy).

Gun006.jpg

I asked a fellow member for some insight/help with this piece, and was totally blown away by the response I got. Forgive me for being a bit cryptic, but suffice it to say I was no longer in need of completing my project..

But alas, my compulsive side got the better of me, and I couldn't let an unfinished project sit -- well -- unfinished.

So I airbrushed on some Liquitex acrylics (Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber), smeared on some black, sealed it with Testor's semi-gloss, and it was looking a LOT like the MR.

I masked off the "wood", sprayed some gloss black on the metal, and hit it with Alclad Chrome.

After weathering it and adding some minor details, what you see is what I got.

The toy is thicker when looking straight down on the top of the two, likely to accomodate the batteries. And, while I thank you for the compliments, I think the MR is still a finer piece. For those considering the MR still, know that first, the MR IS better than my toy conversion, and second (though I hope I don't sound arrogant), I was really surprised with how well I finished the toy -- not everyone may be able to do so. So unless you have a lot of time and talent and not a lot of money, don't forsake the MR.

Here's a look at my "rust" on the barrel. According tot he Visual Guide, Jack polishes his barrel daily... Not sure I want to know more about that....

Super job. I just ordered one from Amazon. Although I have my doubts that I can even come close to yours I am going to give it a shot.

Thanks.
