    I'm planning on doing a reconstruction of Jack Sparrow's back tattoo but can't find many good images. I found this one on-line:

    [IMG]

    This seems to be from a special feature from the AWE DVD, but I only have the film, not the bonus disc. Could someone go through and see if you can find more images of this? I have the text already, but really need a better shot of the left circle design and the ones near the bottom. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Magnoli

    Yeah, I went ahead and ordered a copy. Just thought I'd see if anyone could do a quick snap job for me. Oh well.

    My plan is to draw up the back and have it printed on aged parchment textured paper like my Middle Earth map. I thought it'd make a cool not-so-obvious prop.

    Well, there's no reason why, once I'm done with my master, I couldn't print it off onto temporary tattoo paper in several sections. ;)

    I'm into google-mode every now and then (aren't we all?), as soon as I find something useful, I'll let you know,

    Unbelievable! That is EXACTLY what I need. Come on google...

    It looks like the flat image of the back tattoo is reversed, maybe this is the "original" image of the temp tattoo stuck on the back (since they have to be mirrored). Interesting...

    I know how that feels :lol...

    I don't remember where the pic I posted came from, but looks like a visitors snapshot, might as well be a member here. So if anyone up here recognises the photo, please help us out...

    Well, I should have the DVDs this week. I'll go through the extra features and see if I can't find something better.

    Photos from that display MUST be somewhere. Let's keep digging!

    I contacted the source of those photos. Let's see if we can get any better shots. The good news is that I've sourced the exact same font used for the text, so at least that is covered!

    Thanks! I've contacted someone I know in the make-up industry that may be able to track down some better shots for me so... fingers crossed!

    One interesting thing to note is that the last couple of lines of the Desiderata gets cropped off from the tattoo. I guess they couldn't get it all to fit. Too bad, because the ending of the poem is one of the best parts. I may still include it in my version... tough to say. I'm curious what people's take on this is... full poem or screen accurate? I believe the bottom of the tattoo is mostly obscured by the sash anyway.

    ...and the conspiracy continues! Here's the reply back I got from my make-up contact:

    Oh well... I guess I'll just have to reconstruct as best as I can from the info we've collected thus far.

    Right now I'm working on the layout for my print. There will have to be some executive decisions made regarding the integrity of the poem as some of it is missing from his back...

    I believe it is generally regarded by fans as "non canonical", meaning that the "real" Jack Sparrow didn't actually have this, only one of his "personas" in Davy Jones' Locker.

    Well, I'm going to aim for as close a tattoo as possible for Phoenix Comic Con (if I do indeed go, this weekend). I found a tattoo artist willing to take a stab at it, so I've purchased some temporary tattoo pens and ink, and we'll give it a go on Thursday night/Friday morning! If I do go through with it then I'll post pics!

    Did a bunch of work on this today. I re-positioned all the text (several times!) drew the dolphin border and the "monkey face" (which, lacking any good quality images, I had to creatively extrapolate the details):

    Yes, the originals used by the make-up artist were some kind of temp tattoo. One of the original sets were on display at a make-up symposium a few years ago no high-res images are available, so we've got to make do with what we have.

    For those who have missed it in the original post, I'm planning on offering these as printed posters (on canvas and parchment) but may be able to offer temp tattoos as well...

    The actual prints on canvas/parchment will likely be around $40 each (shipped). I'm still looking into the means of doing large temp-tattoos, for those interested.

    Ok, I've talked to a local company that specializes in temp tattoos, but the largest size they can go is A4 (basically a sheet of paper), so the image would have to be broken up into four pieces. A full set (of just the back tattoo, but I could look into doing the arm ones as well) would be around $80 (shipped). The other thing is I'd have to do a run of at least 50 sets. Not sure if there is enough interest for that... Let me know what you guys think.

    Kind regards,
    Indy

    Hello Guys i registered on this website just to post some info i found i hope it helps: first of all many fans believe this is totally canonical, now the info i found is the back tatto is a 15 century poem called ''desiderata'' The Full poem Is :-

    Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
    and remember what peace there may be in silence.

    As far as possible without surrender
    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
    they are vexations to the spirit.

    If you compare yourself with others,
    you may become vain or bitter;
    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
    it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business affairs;
    for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals;
    and everywhere life is full of heroism.

    Be yourself.
    Especially, do not feign affection.
    Neither be cynical about love;
    for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
    it is as perennial as the grass.

    Take kindly the counsel of the years,
    gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
    But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.
    You are a child of the universe,
    no less than the trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here.
    And whether or not it is clear to you,
    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God,
    whatever you conceive Him to be,
    and whatever your labors and aspirations,
    in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

    With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
    it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful.
    Strive to be happy. :thumbsup

    It looks good but I think the bottom part might be upsidedown (archs look like they sould be on bottom and the straight edge should be under the text).

    Yeah, the original design was like that, but you can see that they are flipped in the actual tattoo (seen in the extra features on the DVD).
