Jabba the Hutt original face casting display

Love it, fantastic to see another rare original piece so beautifully displayed!

Only wish I could see it in the flesh.

Very impressive! Will this be something that Propstore will be selling, or is it already reserved for someone? (Not that I could afford it.)

Also, do you know if this is the same as this skin?

That's a fantastic display, guys.

I assume that it is the (unpainted) latex skin that John Coppinger stored so carefully for years. (?) He did make a couple of molds from it, and took it out to a couple of conventions (I have pictures, somewhere), as well. I enjoyed meeting it.

But it looks terrific like this.

Congratulations.

That's HR Nielsen, me, and John Coppinger in the pic.

Hi guys,

Thank you all for the kind words.

This piece was indeed originally owned by John Coppinger, who sculpted Jabba for the film. It is an original foam latex test casting of the face, which has remained in excellent condition over the years. The eyes are original production components as well, with fiberglass inners covered by thick vac formed outers.

The original Jabba puppet was scrapped (with the exception of his eyes, as noted) so this is the only original reference to the sculpt at this point.

The piece really transformed in having the display made, as without the proper shape it is just a large, floppy piece of foam rubber. Brian and Tom did a great job on this. As this piece is one in my personal collection, it is not being sold.

Best,
Brandon

That is great. Please invite Lucasfilm to scan it so they will know what Jabba should look like the next time they try to digitally recreate him. Seriously.

Unfortunately I can only assume that Lucasfilm is actively trying to change the way Jabba looks. Everything from the sculpt to his coloration is different in the various CGI versions.

Wow! this is really cool!

Are you worried about it breaking down over time? it looks perfect for it's age.

It's good to see this has survived all this time and is being properly taken care of. :thumbsup
