is this foam good for costuming?

You may want to wait more than 44minutes before bumping your thread. People are less likely to help the impatient.

They may be a little thick for most things, see if they have any thinner.

At that price, plus shipping, you'd be looking at nearly $30. Don't know where you're currently at, but I've found the same quantity (6 2x2 sheets per pack) and thickness at 3 different Wal-Marts for $20. Look in the sporting goods section. They are sold under the Golds Gym label. They are 10mm thick, so it's not ideal for anything that needs compound curves without a lot of hacking and re-gluing. They don't have that nifty carbon-fiber look to the bottom of them, but unless you're building a Mass Effect suit, it won't matter since you aren't going to be using that side anyway.

You can find 6' x 2' sheets at Dicks sporting goods in 7mm. IMO, it's a lot easier to work with than the 10mm square mats. especially if you're just getting into it. The learning curve with 5-7mm is a lot less steep and it's way more forgiving for making built up details vs. sanding/cutting/Dremeling out the thicker stuff.

Online isn't really the best way to look for foam, shop around in hardware stores, department stores or the bargain centre stores, you would be surprised how easy it is to buy foam, it's out there you just have to find it.

Those matts are usable but probably not recomended due to their thickness.

I found a large roll on eBay for £17 inc delivery, the link is on a thread I started, it'll be on my profile

sorry for the double post
he closest Walmart and dicks sportin goods near me are far away so i checked their websites to see what foam they have and the smallest foam they carry is .5 inch
will those amazon boards i put in the first post work?
thanks!

Are you in the US? They have decent, cheap foam at Harbour Freight. I have gotten it on sale for $5 for a 4 pack pack of 2x2 squares before, they seem to go on sale once every month or two.

Sears also has a large roll of foam for around $20 that is about 7mm that I have heard good things about as well. It comes in a 48x96in roll iirc.

I don't know what thickness it is precisely, I'm just guessing about 7mm. I know for sure that the roll is thinner than the 10mm squares most people use.

great ill order 2 rols of it! will that make a whole suit?

Without knowing what you're building or your current skill level, that's a hard question to answer.

I'm only 1/2 way through my first full foam armor and I've gone through all 6 sheets of 2x2 squares after n00b13 trial and error and learning how to work with the stuff. If you're not already adept at using it, and If you have the means to get it, I'd buy as many rolls as you can comfortably store without it being a hindrance to your everyday life. 3 or 4 just so your project isn't held up if you can't find the same product if you run out or burn through it trying to get things to work right.

Just my 2 cents. YMMV.
