Is there a way to find the official schematic for a prop?

hey I'm looking for an original prop from a movie... the movie was made back in the 90's so I'm sure that the origional props have all been sold... my question is... Is there any way to find the original blueprint for the prop?... what i want is the Wing Commander Cross... I know that copies of it are readily available on the forums... in fact i just bought one... what i wanna know is what the original in movie cross was made of... any idea where i could find out that type of information?

The imdb is a good place to start...you can sometimes find the name of the effects company that worked on the film...
