Is there a Star Wars Definitive Collection LD to DVD convert available?

Probably been discussed before, but didn't see a topic started. Does there such exist a superior quality transfer from the anamorphic OT LDs to DVD?

If so, where might I be able to acquire one? I've bought these movies more times than any other movies I've ever owned. I'm told left and right these are actually excellent quality transfers (the laserdiscs), but I am NOT a fan of flipping discs and interrupting the film to buy the laserdiscs. And are they even good looking on large HDTVs?

I'm fearing from what I've seen in the Blu-Ray ad they showed that they're not going to be making any color adjustments to match the restored quality of the old ones. I'm still ultra miffed they got rid of Lapti Nek. That was just a tragedy!

Thanks for any info!

I don´t think that LD will look good on an HD screen, since the resolution is IIRC just a tad bit better than VHS.

The LDs were not anamorphic, they were letterboxed. Your best bet is what's called the "GOUT", which are the "bonus" DVDs in the last official DVD set they put out of the Trilogy. Those were made from the masters that were used to make the LDs. (But, again, not anamorphic)

But no, they won't look terribly good blown up to HD.

There are fan projects that used broadcast HD materials that have been "de-special editioned" back to the original versions, though. See originaltrilogy.com.

Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it! I read mixed information about the LDs having a true anamorphic, but I didn't think that was correct.
