Ironic Man (Foam Build) + Black Widow Costume + War Machine Coming soon!

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/24/2010! New Pics!

Would someone really want my foam suit post Halloween? I wouldn't think so.

You'd be surprised most people know they will never have the time to do it themselves, or in my case, the room to do it without my cat destroying it:) I've lost full Chief busa armor, some ODST stuff, some Halo weapons, and 45% of a Mrk III suit to the furry ******* :cry

depends how much you'd be selling it for..... :D

See:thumbsup

I wouldn't have the slightest idea of what to charge for this when it's done.

Alot of times and effort/money has gone into it.

I agree, you probably have to start off with an guess and just hope for the best offer, or just see which ones come your way.

This is looking amazing.

Could I just ask - how do you get the shape of the part from the pepakura printout onto the foam?

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/24/2010! New Pics!

I modify the edges till I have large enough pieces. I then print out onto card stock, cut them out and use those as templates on the foam. Nothing fancy here.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/24/2010! New Pics!

You seem to get really clean edges..

are you cutting the edges of the pieces on an angle to get a clean join?
if so, are you taking a best guess as to the angle required?

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/27/2010! Helmet Painted and Lit!

Wow - those eyes are pretty bright. You can actually still see through there?

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/27/2010! Helmet Painted and Lit!

cool. too bad the foam has textures. but not bad either. ;)

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/27/2010! Helmet Painted and Lit!

I don't really care about the texture. Mainly because this is not supposed to be prop or movie accurate. I am simply making a Halloween costume that will certainly blow away the other store bought Iron Man costumes out there.

I am happy with it. The texture almost gives it a hammered metal look.

I plan on building a complete War Machine using ROBO's future pep files. But until then I will put this on display in the house when Halloween has past.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/24/2010! New Pics!

I should have posted pics. But I used a 20 mini led battery operated string of lights. I then glue gunned 10 per each rectangle I cut from a frosted plastic bottle. I then layed down a thick layer of glue gun glue and then capped that off with a piece of reflective material. I then simply super glued them into the eyes leaving a gap at the bottom.

All in all it gives rather uniform light across the eye.

Thanks for the compliment also.

What type of lighting did you end up going with Jordan? Helmet looks killer BTW!!!:cool

Interesting ink :)

As for what to do with your suit, there was a discussion on SIWDAT on that very topic. It depends on whether you feel like wearing it for other uses - such as appearing at charity events, or going to conventions...

Otherwise, selling it is always a possibility. Big gray area on what to charge, though. Keep in mind that what people see in pictures and what they see in person are usually different. The price you come up with will need to take into consideration how much time you spent, what materials cost, and what you think is fair.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/27/2010! Helmet Painted and Lit!

The ink you can see is Jim Morrison negative art portrait on my shoulder and then a Sailor Jerry... aka old school style Star Wars chest piece that desperately needs color... and on the other arm you cannot see I have a full sleeve.

It takes great. All I do is put two thin coats of Mod Podge Gloss and then spray paint it.

I'm still amazed at how well the helmet came out.

you can get away with innacuracies in the armour as its always open to interpretation and peoples body shape, but the helmet .. wow

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update 10/27/2010! Helmet Painted and Lit!

graphic that suit is insane! i am blown away by this! Just a suggestion...now i'm being serious and not trying to be mean at all. Would you consider using a girdle for the mid section? it would provide a semi rigid layer... and you can add some foam details on top of it....now if i offended you i totally didn't mean that. i'm not in super shape either.
