Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

did you use pep files for this also and if so which one.

Your work is amazing how are the abs going? Your work may be one of the most amazing iron man works I have ever seen.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Wow Jordan. I'm honestly VERY surprised at how that helmet turned out. Really really nice! I totally thought it would look really strange, but you nailed it! Great job! I cant wait to see it all painted up!

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Wow, i am impressed that it looks so smooth. Thought it would be blocky or something.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Thanks! Reason it doesn't look blocky and none of my build does is because everything is based off ROBO's pep files. So the only difference is the thickness of foam vs. paper.. but you don't see that stuff as it is on the inside.

This is amazing Jordan! Amazed at what you did using foam mats. We are almost neighbors! Looking forward to seeing this painted.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

One of the most amazing foam helmets I've ever seen. Very nice! I hope mine turns out that well when I do it...

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Very good looking helmet!!
You maybe could post the templates you used... pleeeeeeease..... :D :D

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

I kind of modified the templates as I went so I don't really have all the pieces. But basically I have just opened ROBO's files in pep designer... played with the join/dis-join faces until I had shapes large enough I could work with. If the flaps and edges are too far apart then you separate them. If they are so close then you can assume they might as well be one piece. Then you just eliminate all of the edge pieces as the natural thickness of the foam takes care of that anyways.

Then it is just a matter of looking at the 3d model in pep designer and think about how you are going to layer/step the pieces to create depth in areas. I really am not creative.. I am simply taking a technical approach to this build. I much more admire Miso's iron Maniac, etc.. their builds are more creative and freehanded whereas I am using ROBO's stuff to guide me.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I might have given up without all the followers and support I've received.

Cheers!
Jordan

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Hey guys. I need help. I want to install a simple lighted eyes and fan setup in side helmet. So I want basically EL sheet cut and glued into the eyes leaving gap at bottom to see through and a small computer fan pumping air to my face... I want both items to lead to a switch so I can turn on and off and have it all run on a 9 volt or something. Could someone help or give me a wiring diagram. This is out of my realm of knowledge.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

jordan: i'm currently designing a modular peppers ghost eye lighting system based in the same helmet file your using. By all math it should glow better the el sheeting but allow you full visability. Give me a few days and i'll share the design with you.

great job btw

I'd like to see that when you're ready also - all these great Iron Man threads are pushing me towards making a suit myself. My friend and I went to NYCC and are thinking of getting some people together to go as the Avengers...

Hey Jordan, for illuminated eyes, I'm doing the same as masked rider:

check out post #480:

And for the fan, I guess you can use a computer fan? Wring is really easy, check out that tutorial joee posted.

Are you going to make the faceplate removeable? I'm trying to figure out how to do that for my helmet but the foam doesn't seem to hold its shape to well on its own.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Thanks!

And no the faceplate won't move because of the reason you just mentioned.

I have another helmet WIP that will move etc.. btu for Halloween Foam costume I am happy with it not movin. I'll check out tha tthread.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

for the lights I have seen somewhere on here (cant remember where/who though!) a nice idea that's simple, a cheap light from a dollar store that you clip to a baseball cap, it has a few white LEDs in little silver reflectors, you can use those and a gluegun stick.
I bought one of the lights, it has 5 LEDs, so I'm planning on using one at each end of a stick per eye.
You an paint/tape etc the inside half of the stick so you can see. Maybe even some kind of metal tape so it's a reflector.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Hey guys. So I plan on posting progress pics tonight. I have both legs done. So I just need to do the abs in foamies and boot coverings and then a few other misc things. I have decided to post a preview of the helmet. Sorry the color is off in iphone pic. Really nice in person. I will do the gold faceplate tonight.

Sweet! I'm amazed at how well you were able to get the foam into that shape!

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) NEW PICS 10/17/2010! Foam Helmet!

Thanks Adrian. I will be posting an update tonight with most of the costume on. Of course it is still blue lOL.. but good news.. the red paint matches compression gear almost exactly so that is good.
