Re: Foam Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build New Pics 09/22!

Awww! I saw this bumped up and was hoping to see new pics. I just spent a disappointing 2 hours and came up with nothing I was happy with. And a blister from burning myself with hot glue! Any chance we can see pics of the patterns yet? :D

Well i need to finish the other forearm and shoulder bell.. but to change up and do something new I am tackling a cod piece today. I am dying to know if my fat a** will fit into it ha ha.. Good thing foam has stretch.

Re: Foam Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build New Pics 09/22!

So I built the ab section to go with the cod.. and it adds too much bulk given the thickness of the foam to work and fit behind the chest... especially mainting the streamlined thinner waist look... so what I am thinking of doing is...

A. Sewing on pleather ab shapes and spine/sides to my undersuit.

B. Sewing on foamies ab shapes and spine/sides to my undersuit.

C. Silliest idea... buying one of those cheesy cheap rubies suits with the painted on abs and wearing that under my suit.

or... D. Having no stomach abs area.. because the bulk of top and legs area will give the best thinner stomach look anyways.

Thoughts???

Re: Foam Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build New Pics 09/22!

I say go with the foamies! I love the stuff. You can get a lot of detail to the abs with little or no bulk. Here is my suggestion...use the 1/4 thick stuff. Go to either Toys R Us, Big Lots, or Sears hardware dept. because they all are now selling rolled EVA foam mats that are that thickness. Usually with something in them called Microban or something like that. The package will say durable EVA foam. I have seen them as kid sleep mats at Big Lots and TRU and as shop mats at Big Lots, careful not to get the one that says it contains lead!! YEs I am serious! When you find it this way, you get a TON of it for much less than buying the 8.5 x 11" sheets, since that is the only size that comes in the 1/4 thickness!

TAAADAAAA!

Re: Foam Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build New Pics 09/22!

Go with:

E. "Sand" The inside of the abs and stomach so it is thinner.

or

F. Pep and Resin it

Re: Foam Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build New Pics 09/22!

how about trying that plastic garbage can bit, for the abs, (just a thought, sorta like a mixed media thingee)

Re: Foam Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build New Pics 09/22!

is the procedure with mats the same with pepakura? I meant after the form is made can you paint it with the resin too and so on?

Re: Camping Mat Iron Man Mark IV Build NEW PICS 09/18!

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update Tonight EST

To show just how ridiculously hard I am making this foam suit come together I decided to show you guys how many pieces go into just the shoulder...

This is my secret to it being fairly close to ROBO's pep files.. it's working.. but deff time consuming.

You are breaking it down to even smaller pieces than I thought. I am putting mine on hold until AFTER Halloween now. I don't want to rush it and it will keep me from doing so. Looking forward to seeing yours and all the other foam builds come together!

I dunno if this was asked already and I just missed reading it. But how do you cut it? Exacto KNife? I wonder if it would help to make it more even if you heat the blade on a flame? or would it just burn the foam?

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update Tonight EST

It cuts like butter. A good sharp blade makes smooth straight cuts with pretty much no force applied to the knife.

Re: Ironic Man (Foam Build) Update Tonight EST

WOW! You may say you have no experience but you certainly have a great latent talent for doign that stuff, looks incredible!
