Couldnt agree more. What's great about this stuff is it's cheap and ANYBODY can do it. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on clay, scupting tools, resins or molds. You don't have to be an expert sculptor or prop pro. I'm certainly not. I have zero prop experience.

Anybody who wants to give this a try, it costs you about $15 for a glue gun, glue sticks, an exacto knife and one camping mat roll. That's pretty cheap. The materials are easy to work with and very forgiving. Make a mistake? You can cut glue apart and reglue, and you usually can't tell anything was done. Cut something too short? Just cut another piece of foam and add it as needed.

Go out to WalMart, pick up what you need and give it a try. It's been alot of fun for me.

I have a low heat glue gun that cost me about $3 from the Mart that runs along the Wal. It works great for pep work especially, won't burn you when pressing the tabs together, it's a must have IMO.

No this isn't the modified shoulder. I already built the shoulder but he made a brace piece for me to keep its shape. It is the exact shoulder pep file ROBO made just modified to be pep friendly. So it is in essence accurateish

That is in essence the easiest build of the entire suit. When building with foam you don't need to do edge pieces because the foam has its own thickness. So basically the trick is to stick with the main shapes and create varrying layers and offset each layer when they meet ot create indents etc.

I'm totally digging this camp mat Iron Man build! How do you carve/shape the recessed areas? I've heard of people using hot knifes, but I'm not sure if that goes for camping or yoga mats.

Hey... it is much easier than everyone thinks. I make the recessed areas simply by cutting out the particular area that is to be recessed.. I then insert it back into the area it came from but I place it lower and if it's an area like an inclined notch. Then I place it back in the same spot and flush the top portion and have it recede until it's a bit lower. The hot glue holds everything perfectly. It's not like it simply glues one piece to another. It melts/fuses itself and creates a solid piece.

Yeah I ended up figuring it out myself. I built it the same way I did it all using ROBO's pep files.

It is accurate to the pep file so in theory it is accurateish to the real deal.. I think. Thanks for the compliment Patriot it's encouraging. Your's is really shaping up also.

This just gets better and better. As soon as I see some of the flattened pieces, I think I may have to start on my own version of this. I just need to see them to help my mind start to think in terms of how the foam works and warps.

You are sort of on the right track. I will take some more time tonight to respond to you in more detail. In a nut shell. You don't need to account for many of those open gaps.. just fudge them.. and by fudge I don't mean cut slits etc... and you don't need any lip pieces.. either on the edges or in the indent areas..

And I will get those flat pieces soon. I only have so much time after work during the week and most is spent building new stuff since the halloween deadline gets tighter and tighter.

I'm going to try this for a few of my ideas, it would even be great for prototyping before you try something more expensive plus my dad get 10% employee discount at walmart lol.
