Iron Man voice changer?

Anybody have any leads in a reasonable voice changer/speaker set up for an Iron Man suit? I see lots of Star Wars ones. But for Iron Man all you really need is something that has a decent speaker and gives it a slight robotic sound.

Any ideas?

Not a full idea I have but they sell a T-Pain voice changer mic that may or may not make you sound robotic because it basically auto tunes your voice. If you tore that apart it might work?

I got one of these this summer and I've been looking for a way to use this...

I did a quick search on Amazon.com for "voice changer" and several for about $10 showed up. The only question is do they work and do they sound cool.

I bought one of those cheap $10 voice changers that look like a loudhailer with 5 switches on the side, and it sort of works. I gutted it and installed the workings in my IM helmet. See my thread for details.

The mic only really works when you have it pressed against your mouth, and the amp is quite quiet. The sound quality of the resulting 'deep-robotic' voice that comes out is best described as poor quality and full of distortion.

However...

It does an excellent job of disguising your voice, and making you sound robotic/electronic which is, afterall, the desired result. You could also replace the mic with a better one, and use a cheap amplified speaker to increase the volume and sound quality.

And...

One of the other switch settings makes you sound exactly like a dalek, which is hilarious.

I bought the Velleman MK171 because it allows to adjust voice effects. It comes in kit, and I still haven't assembled it yet.

I picked this up at Ross today for $15.

I reduced it to this. But it has a push button to activate and it only stays on for about a minute before you need to press the button again. Us its pretty distorted. But it might work for now.

I wear this Amazon.com: 3M Low-Maintenance Half-Mask Organic Vapor, P95 Respirator Assembly, Medium (R6211): Dean Martin: Home Improvement breather mask without the filters and it works pretty well. I took out the filters and added some wax paper to where the filters originally were. It's a low tech solution, but it distorts my voice well.

radioshack sells a very small speaker/mic/amplifier kit for cheap.
i was gonna buy and break it down, and ran out of time.
it has an input as well. would be cool to connect to your cellphone for a soundboard or voice changer app. maybe figure out how to use a bluetooth headset connected to phone, phone app changing voice, output from cellphone to the small speaker/amp

if someone has programming skills, you could create an app with a "jarvis" AI
you could talk to it, and it'll talk back after recognizing keywords.

Just an update.

The Transformers helmet did not work out. The switch was on the circuit board itself. So I couldn't jut bypass it. And in trying to I broke it. Oh well. At least it was cheap. I tried a cheap voice changer I got at the Halloween store but its not great. Really distorted.

I like the idea of just using a small amp and speaker like you suggested from Radio Shack. I've seen some others too. I may try that for my new "Ultimate" helmet I'm making.

Oh and I did see a video a while ago of a voice activated system like you mentioned. The guy could give it commands to open and close the mask. It was pretty cool. If I can find the video again I'll post it here.

Thread bump, update and a question.

I soldered up an mk171 today, added a external mic and wired in an external mp3 speaker box. Tuned right its surprisingly very close to the movie voice IMHO (and my friends/family). For $10 and a little bit of solder work, it's a steal.

The only issue with it is with each power off/on I have to retune it (maybe takes 5-10 seconds). I would much rather it remember the setting. Anyone have ideas about the best way to keep its memory?

cmoore if the way you adjust the tone is a potentiometer then you can just get it to the tune you want it, measure the resistance of the pot at that tune, and solder in a resistor of about that value.
