Iron Man MkIII suit animatronics

honus wheres the tutorial ? ..... oh yeah thats right greg is working you to death on his suit and you have a job , kids, and 90000 other things to do .....i'll shut up and wait patiently some more!

I think we can all wait patiently withoit the sarcasm.

So obviously the tutorial has not yet been posted as I'm still working on Greg's suit. I know a lot of people are waiting on information for their suit builds so I'd like to address this now.

Yes I do have a family (three kids- one of whom is autistic) and a full time job. My time to work on projects like this begins around 10pm if I'm lucky and I cannot work on it every night as I simply do not have that luxury. This is also not the only project I have to work on at this time but it is most certainly my first priority.

Creating a tutorial for this build is secondary to my deal with Greg- it was very generous of him to agree to allow me to take the time to document the build so everyone could benefit from what we've learned. It's an extremely complicated build and there has been a lot of trial and error, fit issues, wiring system complexities, etc. that have needed to be resolved- it's a lot of one step forward, two steps back and because of this it's very difficult to tell people what parts to buy and how to hook things up, etc. for their own suit builds. Until it's completely finished the suit really is in a state of flux- I'm constantly changing things as I go. Without having Greg live near me there's just no way I ever would have been able to work on a project like this due to the complexity of the build.

To say that Greg has been extremely patient would be a gross understatement- nobody wants this suit finished as badly as he does (and rightfully so) and taking care of him in a timely fashion has to be my first priority. This is HIS project and given the limited amount of time I have to work on it I cannot spend countless hours answering questions about Iron Man animatronics, what should I buy, can you build me a helmet/suit, etc. Every minute I spend answering PMs and emails is time I can't spend working on the build. I really do enjoy helping people but right now I have to draw a line and say please be patient and hold off on all the questions- the sooner I get the suit finished, the sooner I'll have the tutorial done. After that's done I'll have time to answer everyone's questions.

At this point in time I'm also going to say that I'm booked up with work for 2014, so I won't be accepting any more commission work. As soon as that changes I'll let everyone know.

I can only speak for myself, but I hope others will agree: take your time, you don't owe any of us anything. It's EXTREMELY generous of you and Greg to share this information given the time, money and expertise involved in this process. Keep up the good work!

Mother of God...
can you show a connecting chart? if it possible =____=

I certainly will in the tutorial. There will be several diagrams covering all of the wiring. Wait till you see the hip pods...

Missing from that pic is the controller for the boots as well as the cables that go to the arms, legs and hip section. Working on that stuff tonight!

it is indeed excellent work. I wait continuation. I will arrive from tours, will repeat a few ideas)

the finish line is in sight honus .... just be careful of your candle gotta keep some wick left for future use

I'm not exactly sure how to respond to that, but don't worry- even though I'm burning the candle from both end I won't burn out anytime soon.

Here's a pic of the finished wiring. Notice the five Ethernet jacks for the cables that run to the gloves, boots and hip pods.

I'd say it's worth adding a layer of thin foam to cover this , if Greg sweats at all then he'd not want to get these electrics damp, I'm sure he's already though of this though.

A fan would be better but we're already pretty tight on space. Thin non conductive foam sheet would work but you don't want to seal it and end up trapping any moisture.
