Iron Man MK4 Pep and Cardboard

Is the card board better at holding shape and easier to work with when applying resin?

Yes, definitely better at holding its shape. The only problem I had with the resining was, initially I was over zealous in applying it. I had enough resin prepared to coat both the inside and outside of the chest in one go. Big mistake... The resin softened the hot glue I had used and the entire chest started coming apart. I managed to salvage the chest and have since learnt to be patient.

My process now is - one coat resin on the outside and then straight to fibreglass on the inside. I did the back this way and all went well.

One other thing, unlike card stock, when you have high spots on your build ( After resin has been applied ), using a heat gun to heat up the effected area and repair it doesnt really work that well, even if you have resined both the inside and outside. So, more bondo is required to fix problem area's ( but I saw that coming )

Still making very slow progress on the chest and back... I'm trying to get things done that I can do inside the house, where it's warmer. So, I found a more suitable cardboard and used it for the shin and boot. BIG difference... the build is a lot "smoother" than that of the chest and back.

I've been playing around with the unibeam section, not movie accurate, I know... but ultimately this suit will be standing in my sons room, so I'm just wanting it to be cool for him.... back light has been put in place, I just need to move the switch to a more accessible area once the suit is assembled.

Excuse the messy workbench.

Just need to clean up the " rib vents " thingymagigs, goodymagafters, what ever their called, and some fine tuning, then this puppy's done. Finally.

wow! looks really good so far.
Youre giving lonely pieces of cardboard hope, that they can one day be made into an Ironman suit!

Thanks Jacoby... must say, those hopeful pieces of cardboard are giving me a run for my money lol.

The chest and back have been a pain because I used a single corrugated cardboard that was 5mm thick, which caused some headaches. The boots and shins are built with cardboard that is about 2.5mm thick.

Much better, resin sets in well and less bodyfiller.

So the back has become a pain in the ... to the point that I've sidelined it for now. The abs / cod piece has been a bit more forgiving. Some progress pics attached :
( sorry about the poor quality )
