Iron Man Mk3 foam suit fitting issues. (WIP pic heavy)

Well I doubt You'll wanna edit it now seeing as the paints on but for a better fit of the abs and chest I feel the pep files arent enough and that the abs actually need another ring higher up that goes under the chest and back. Thatway any movement in it wont show the gap between suit and body

Yeah no time at all to change anything, just to finish what I need to get it going. :)
The idea is to have it inside the chest fastened with velcro so it doesn't get on the outside of the chest-piece. Then in the back I've also sorted it with velcro from the spine on the abs to the top spine-piece which is on the back-piece right now.

Yeah That works fine but screws mobility sadly, my old suit had that problem so on my new suit I've built the chest and abs separate with additional "ribs" if you will, that go into the chest cavity by two rungs so that I can A. turn my chest easily and B. if I stretch up or bend over the chest just rises up it doesnt pull the whole suit with it!

I was thinking about the same when I did the abs and thought it looked a bit short, but since it's my first suit I didn't dare to change to much from the original template, but it's trial and error, on my next suit I'll know what works and what that can be improved.. :)

yeah I know that feel I only realised on my second build cause my first was free floating and attached to my undersuit!

I got all the pieces painted now and got until 18:00 tomorrow to finish/set up the strap-system so everything will fit alright.
I can say that I'm a bit stressed.. :)

It's my pleasure harmfulAdam. :)
I tried to get all the answers I was looking for in this thread to help others like yourself.. So I guess it works.. ^^

A small update here before the stressful day tomorrow and the hours before the party when I need to get everything sorted out.
I got the helmet fixed which I thought that I would have to skip since I didn't find any hinges for it. But I used some magnets I had at home and made a simple but functional fix for a party.. :)
But keep in mind that I'm not that proud over the helmet but it is my first attempt on a foam-helmet with smooth-on products so I'm just glad that I got it together.

First three pics with the helmet on.

Here you can see the magnet holding the faceplate.

I know it's a simple solution but I don't have time or resources to do anything fancy.. ;)
Btw I put a pretty big piece of foam with the magnet so it should be ripped off when you take the pieces off.

Thank god it looks a bit better from the outside than the inside.. ;)

That's it for now, I'll upload some pics on the whole suit being on after tomorrow.
Cheers guys.

Ok a final update, the suit is done and the party is over, pretty happy with the result and the reactions from people. :)
Had some problems with paint coming off when taking off the masking tape after I sprayed the gold so I had to do alot of painting by hand to cover up the damage a few hours before the party started, I got the suit done just before people started to arrive and I think I got the strapping system to work even tho I had very bad mobility.. :)
And I didn't add velcro to the top of the abs until after wearing it for a while so apparently i showed my stomach on alot of pictures when I lifted my arms.. :p

Hope you like it. :)

Re: Iron Man Mk3 foam suit. (Finished! Pic heavy)

I'll be adding some info and pictures of how I did the strapping system in a while. Right now I'm looking forward to clean my apartment that have been a mess since I started this project.. ;)

Nice! Looking forward to it ^^

Hi!

I´m from Sweden as well and I´ve started building my war machine suit...I´m wondering where you got hold of the rotocast?...nice suit by the way...:)

Thank you for doing your thread, The suit looks brilliant. I keep seeing some others that have reduced the scale (too much in my opinion and it creates gaps that show too much shoulder and armpit area)

I'm 5'10-11 and your sort of build, so feel happy that Dancingfools stock file should fit, did you end up rescaling any parts?

Great looking suit mate very nice.

Thanks Man! :)

Thanks! :) I ordered the rotocast from Germany, can't remember the adress but I Think I've mentioned it earlier in this thread.

Thanks alot! :)
I haven't changed the scale at all in this build, but as discussed earlier it wouldn't have hurt to put another 'ring' on the abs-piece.. :)

Sorry for the long wait but I'll try to show how I attached all my parts and so on, it was a bit of trial and error since it was the first time I put it on during the party. I wore it again on an rockfestival a few weeks later and before that I did some minor adjustments.

The mobility on my first try was very bad so the first thing I did for the second attempt was to dissconnect the forearms from the biceps and have it as two seperate pieces.

This is after it being worn twice so it's pretty beaten up.. :p

I used some soft foam on the inside so the parts would fit good to my body. I didn't need to have a strap in between the biceps and chest from keeping them from sliding down, the foam kept em in place.

The thigh-dongels I decided to glue in place to keep them in as good position as possible. The plate in front is attached with velcro to the inside of the thigh. I know there should be an smaller plate also but one of them got lost during painting.

Also the foam was used here to have a snug fit to the thighs and to push them out a little to the sides so they wouldn't scratch that much against eachother.
Here I used a clip-strap, or what you can call it, up to the abs-part.

After connecting to the thighs I could tighten the straps to keep the thighs held up.

On the top of the abs I added an piece of foam so I could attach a piece of velcro wich would be fastened to the other part on the inside of the chest.

Inside of chest.

The same solution was made on the back for attaching the spine.

Out to the shoulderbells I used elastic velcro from the chest/back-piece.

The bells are glued together to one solid piece.

That's about it I guess, I could show some information on how I fixed the hands and fingers later if there is interest. (Later is question about definition) :)

Here's some pictures from the festival where I used it last, had it on for about an hour and the sweat was just pouring. Got alot of reactions and took alot of pictures with people. :)

Still not great mobility tho, but a big difference from the first time.

Not even Iron Man will get in without a body-search, it wasn't easy for them tho! :D

Since Dragonforce was playing we couldn't resist bringing an Guitar Hero-guitar and rock loose to 'Through the fire and flames' ;)

Everything for the fans.. :)

The fingers didn't really wanna stay in place tho.

And that's it folks! Hope you enjoyed the post and as the icing on the cake here's my birtdaypresent from my kid-sister.. ;)

Cheers.
