Iron Man Mark V - I need help!

I really want to make the Iron Man Mark V (suitcase armor) helmet but I've never made anything like this before. I dont know where to begin... I've admired all of the great works that have been posted on this site but I need a push in the right direction to help get me started.

First, What materials do I need? Where can I get these?
Second, What tools do I need to say, sculpt different parts of the helmet?
Third, Does anyone have any HQ screencaps of the helmet for reference?
Fourth, If you could give me tips and suggestions, I would appreciate it.

You should look for Pepakura helmet... great posts here... and that will give you a good hint to all of your questions. :)
 
Thanks guys, I found a pepakura file of the helmet but i dont know what type of material to cut the pieces out that would be durable enough...

for the pepakura helmet print it on 110lbs cardstock. You will cut out the pieces and fold them and glue them together. After that you need to harden it with Resin and Fiberglass. Check out the 405th for tutorials on how to do this.

the 405th got hacked and the site is down. :( i just finished putting together the mkv pepakura. i have to say for my first pep it was a pain in the ass. so many little grooves. you will swear, you will almost cry( as i did) but it can be done. just keep going and youll finish.good luck with this. before you get started read the tutorials on the 405th when its back up.

Quakevirus is right. Check the vids on Youtube they should help. And yes Pep is very tedious.
 
Thanks everyone! I'm going to start tonight. I'll definitely post pictures as I progress. I'm a perfectionist so even if it takes a long time, I'm sure it will look good :rolleyes.

I hate the hero version, CGI helmet lines look way better. IMO

They missed a set of lines on the lower section.
 
Whats your opinion? Should i make the face plate openable or always closed? Does anyone know how to make it moveable if I were to make it that way?
 
You guys weren't kidding when you said pep is long and tedious... But i finished most of the actual helmet, now I'm working on the face plate. I'll post pictures when I finish them both. Thanks again for helping!

Well, the helemt's finally done...at least the paper portion of it. I personally like how it turned out and I am interested to see how it looks after adding the resin and fiberglass. Does anyone have a specific type/brand of fiberglass or resin they prefer? Thanks again for your help and kind words!
