Iron Man Helmet Resurrected

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

What kind of paint did you use on this? It looks a bit thick and heavy for coming out of a rattle can.

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

You get my respect for posting those pics, and props to all who have tried to be helpful

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

As the Mythbusters say, "Failure is always an option". Just have to learn from the failures and not let them get your way. For every obstacle there is a way to overcome it.

And I'm sure your next project will look absolutely amazing. Of course I do like the idea of painting it black and calling it "Cast Iron Man". :lol

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

OK Round 2. I sanded the whole thing back down so that i could see the numbers in the pep lol. I then re-applied bondo and sanded from scratch. I took it down to 800 grit before painting. After these pics were taken i used a blade to clean up the edge on the chin so ignore the imperfections there.

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

You should change your thread title to Iron Man Helmet Rescue!

It can be done!
Keep pushing through!

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

Night and day difference. You might consider sharpening the edges a bit but otherwise it really looks much better.

Re: Iron Man Helmet FAIL

Much better! That second version is far and away a massive improvement, well done :).

As for changing the name of the thread, if you want to, go to Edit on your original post and change the thread title in there.

Yay changed. Thanks guys. I forgot to put in the screws on the faceplate d'oh. I'm trying to think on how i can do that after the fact.

Props for showing the before pics. Looks like you are gonna make it turn out nice. Hope to see the finished product. :thumbsup

I wanted to thank everyone on the forum for their tact and amazingly positive criticism of the helmet. I've been on a lot of different forums for different purposes and with a post like this I would expect people to climb out of the woodwork to slam me. But not here, you all were amazing. I'll post pictures of the helmet when im finished it. I installed the lenses for the eyes and the LED's today, i just have to wire the contact panel to do the auto on/off on the faceplate

The difference between the first and second take are astronomical..
You only prove what everyone says on this site: If the first try doesn't work out, don't give up; try again!

I agree about the atmosphere on this forum. Everyone is remarkably helpful. Positive reenforcement is an amazing tool!

Keep it up. You'll only grow with experience.

any ideas on how to do the helmet screws after the fact? I was thinking of trying to cut them into the helmet with a dremel or something but that could get messy.

Brother, you have done a much better work this time. I think you can try once again, do not be happy yet. Sand more and put more bondo in some areas, keep the fotos near you to compare, it works. You are on the right way, keep up the good work!!! :thumbsup
