Iron Man helmet - need some advice

Hello
Im totally new to this this is why I have some questions before I continue my work. I recently started on doing Iron Man helmet using pepakura but I transfered everything onto a cardboard as its more stiff material than just printer paper. I have cut out all pieces and mounted them together but I dont know what I should do next. Should I buy fiberglass mats with resing and put it on helmet or something else? I have no idea what Im doing at this point I need some help please! :confused Later on I will try to do it using foam but for now I just wanna try to do it this way.

Many thanks
Sepirot

Yes I have watched them all but they are all as far as Im conserned based on foam material and Im using cardboard for now. But thanks anyway.

i just use the fiberglass kit from Halfords it's everything in one handy kit it's about £20 for the large one and it should do a helmet for sure.. i tip i have found handy is to stick the fiberglass mat down with spray glue as the mat is thick and quite hard to work with. But mix it as it says on the instructions and "paint" it onto the outside first.. hope this helps

Yes this helps a lot. I never worked with fiberglass before so I hope you dont mind if I ask some questions. Do I fiberglass both sides of helmet? or just one side?, would one layer be enough or do i need more? and what to do after fiberglassing so I can paint it? I really never done anything like it so im totally green about the process and materials.

Brush on the resin on the outside, fiberglass the inside. Once everything is set, then you start the filling and sanding process (commonly referred to as "Bondo", which is a brand of filler)

Indeed I didn't know he did fiberglass vidoes. Thanks for letting me know, now I know and I can go and watch it and learn.

Aw right I didnt know order of steps to take now I know thanks again Kevin, appreciate it a lot.

I'd advise you not to buy any fibreglass supplies from halfords or motorworld. They are way over priced and of not such a good quality. I buy from cfsnet.co.uk , These guys specialise in manufacturing the fibreglass resin which is not only better quality but cheaper too. I've glassed a whole suit for about £70. They also sell all the disposable gloves, paintbrushes, measuring cups and other items that you'll need for the glassing stage.

Best of luck with your build

Thanks guys I'll have a look into it but it seems pep I was using is not accurate enough or simply not something I was expecting so for now Im looking at all different peps for helmet and I will try to buy A4 gsm sheets of paper but I have no idea which one. Then build it again from scratch I guess. So again seems like im in research stage again ;/
Thanks again.

I heard people using gms paper for their pepakura. What density should I use so its stiff because I once used just normal printer paper and it all collapsed when I glued it together so more stiff paper would be better then but what density? what kind of paper to use for my pepakura? What did you use guys?

I am in the US so the paper i use is 110 lb card which equates to 200 GSM if i am not mistaken. This seems to be what most people use. Though i admit i am a total noob. Just got 2 helmets past the fiberglass stage and going into bondo.

Also there are some great tutorials here. xXBocephusXx - YouTube .
He has a lot of tutorials going through the whole process from start to finish. I learned a lot from them along with the Hero Tutorials by Stealth already mentioned.

Hey guys, I'm also looking into building a suit and was wondering what the average cost might be to use the fiberglass/resin/bondo method for an entire suit. I have most of the tools, just looking at material costs. Bamboodia mentioned glassing a suit for £70, is that just for the fiberglass or for all materials up to the fiberglass stage?

I used 240gsm card for my build. It went through my printer with no problems. You can buy it in packs of 24 sheets from WHSmith for around four quid.

£70 was just for the fibreglass and the matting. You'd need to almost double that to include all the protective equipment and mixing stuff.
