Hey guys! I'm new to this forum but i've always wanted an ironman suit of my own. He is by far my favorite marvel character. I wnan try and build my own suit eventually but atm i dont have the time with school. My question is, ovbiously theres a difference, but ive seen both foam and fireglass/hard builds. I was just wondering if i was to buy a suit which one everyone prefered? Also if i go with the fiberglass one how do you hold the pieces together when wearing the suit? HOpe to get some good opinions!

Firstly if u are at school, unless ur richie rich fiberglass is out due to cost.

Foam in temporary and not hard wearing at all unless plastidipped. Which one again hikes up cost.

Shop bought IM costumes are wank and not worth considering....

If interested in an unsealed, unpainted IM MK VI in foam without the helmet PM me.

you can buy a car for less than even a decent iron man costume... building one is the only feasible way to get one. plus you love it all the more when you're done!

Totally agree. My preference is steel for me it's truly the only way. :love

Haha yeah that makes sense. Well I believe I could do the foam maybe. But I'd have no idea how to do a hard one aka fiberglass or w/e. I mean if it lasted forever it might be worth the cost. Ill be a pharmacist in 2 years haha. But anyway regardless how exactly do you hold the suit together in a fiberglass build? Because all the prices are separate

You should really lurk more. There are 100 different build threads that explain all your questions. Heck, stealth even has a YouTube channel (theherotutorials) that explains how to build iron man step by step.
Anyways, the suits are held together by ballistic straps and buckles, velcro and magnets. Really whatever works best for the parts you are trying to attach.

If you take a look at my build, I showed pretty much every step. I not really as a tutorial. I was just excited to be learning as I went. My suit is far from prefect but I really love it. It took me about 3 months (because I slacked off quite a bit....) and cost me maybe about $300 total. ($20 here, $30 there...)

If you really on tight budget, there is no shame looking at miraculously material: cardboardium.

Yes, at some point, you can have cardboard even for free! Just use single wall board. Double wall give a headache, or separate them, and you have twice as many as before.

With the basic material at free, you need to invest tool, glue, and paint (probably a bit putty). As Royal Dump saying: it's cosmetically blinding.

if you want more permanent, go fiberglass. With all the savings you had, you probably can afford this step. Just make sure wearing mask, and do it outdoor.

I actually did a quick run down of what I paid for my foam suit. The whole thing cost about $220 plus or minus about $20 for things I forgot...
