ioncanon Sucks!

So, what is up with this guy? Has anyone heard anything from him? I am only posting this because I am not aware of any closure to his debacles. Has he been banned yet or is there still hope for some reason that he is going to come through for someone - anyone?

I was not a side panel purchaser. He owes me for a lesser item. After years of dealings here, he is the first to leave me empty handed. I count myself lucky for that. Nevertheless... :angry

The propensity of people to get in over their heads here is perpetual. And I'm not really a fan of alliteration, but the terminology fits.

I'm hardly the most active member of this community, but it seems to me there are three basic types of deadbeats that happen here:

1) Well-meaning and talented individuals that over-extend themselves and suddenly get hit by forced beyond their control (i.e. divorce, illness, financial troubles, etc.) and have to bail out. They usually make good on promises, eventually. Or at least manage to pay people back.

2) Those that come in, gets all excited and jazzed up by all the really cool stuff happening, try to jump in and by egotistical human nature over-promise what they can deliver. Only to realize it far too late and bail out without a word. They're usually too embarrassed to show their faces again... even though they owe people refunds or items. They just choose to disappear.

and

3) No-good asshats who see a short-sighted opportunity to bilk good members of the forum for as much as they can and run away.

I am of the opinion that #'s 1 and 2 comprise the overwhelming majority of deadbeats.

Sadly, because of the nature of what we do here, it ALWAYS falls to the rest of us to observe the age-old proverb: Buyer Beware.

Can justice be gotten? Yes. But it's tough. REALLY tough.

I'm truly saddened to hear of yet another situation like this.

In all of the "deal-gone-bad" threads, I've wondered about justice - have any of them ever received a beating or such-like?

I see a lot of heated posts and threats of legal action, but no-one ever says, "I saw him/her at dragoncon, so set about them with fists and feet".

Very restrained lot we are if you ask me - I've not been taken for a ride yet, but if I was out by hundreds and I saw them - I don't know if I could just let them walk by - not a known thief with my money.

Not condoning violence, but human nature often takes over when face-to-face with someone who has stolen from you, surely?

For most people the toughness and attitude only lasts while they are online. (Keyboard courage)
In person people are pussycats.:lol

I remember at DragonCon 2003, I was downstairs in the lobby of the Hyatt and 2 guys showed up with baseball bats looking for a costume maker who had scewed them (and many others) out of some armor. They had heard that the guy was going to be at the con, and they came to... "talk" to him. ;)

Personally, I don't feel that violence is the answer for anything. Once upon a time I used to be angry and would almost look for a reason to pick a fight. When I look back and there was a "confrontation", nothing was ever resolved. There is ALWAYS an alternative to violence.
Does that make me weak? I don't think so. Sure, I'll defend myself IF neccesary, I'll even back down and walk away if there is a chance. I just don't think hurting someone for a few bucks is the answer.

There are always better alternatives to "revenge". :love

I wasn't in on the last run of side panels per se, but I *was* involved in a related purchase (you can check the first link in KA's post above to learn more), and although I (eventually) received my item, it was craptastic, AND I know feel screwed after him continuing to produce the panels. (n)unsure

Oh well. Lesson learned. I've re-engineered the panel and will be molding and making my own copies (for my own HIC) soon. I might even offer some here to fill the void that ioncannon left.

He got me and a few others on some of the mask boards.

He was in good standing for YEARS in the Mask community.

No one knows why he went south. There was talk about helth issues, but am not sure if it was true or not.

Someone once told me about a great way to exact revenge on someone.

Step 1. Go to Boarders / Barnes & Noble

Step 2. Go to the magazine section and pick up every issue and shake out those annoying "mail-in subscription" coupons.

Step 3: Fill them all out with your targets name and address.

Step 4: Mail them.

Step 5: Enjoy!

:lol

I'll have to remember this one next time I feel the need for some revenge.:lol

My favorite prank/revenge, is to go to a windshield repair place. Go to the dumpster in the back and get a couple of handfuls of broken glass.

Wait for your mark to leave his car door unlocked. Sneak in, roll down his window all of the way, and throw the glass all over the inside of his car.

It can sometimes take hours before they figure out that it wasn't their window. One time we actually had a friend drive his car to the repair place. He looked like a right dip#^*&, when they rolled the window up.

Even though some guys are complete poops about living up to their commitments, we must also remember that, as "customers" we are sometimes a VERY unforgiving lot.

This is a hobby of passion. Many of the deals we do could be considered "shady". That's sometimes part of the fun of the hobby. But out and out assault because of a busted deal isn't and shouldn't be a viable option. Goes without saying... its downright illegal.

Can't agree on the customers being quite unforgiving thing, i think most of the customers are very forgiving extremely so in many cases.
Can you think of any other customer base where people will sit around for 2 or 3 years waiting on something they were promised would only take a week only to say well his stuffs good but he's a bit slow when they eventually get the goods ?
I can't but i see that happening on this and other boards all the time.
