Did anyone actually like Inglorious Basterds? I DVR'd it the other night and it's horrible. I almost stopped watching an hour in, but figured that with it being rated 3 1/2 stars that maybe it hadn't gotten to the good part yet. There is NO good part... Of WW2 movies, this is right at the bottom with The Thin Red Line. At least I didn't pay (theater or PPV) for it.

Totally awesome movie!

Took a few views to sink in, but now I love it, one of Tarantino's best :thumbsup

It was marketed pretty badly, though. I'm guessing you were expecting a an all-out men on a mission action flick.

The fact that the Basterds weren't really in it much and the whole thing re-writes history threw me a little on first viewing.

That right there is a problem. This movie was pretty average and longer winded than it should have been. I do not dislike Tarantino, but this movie was NOT that good.

Maybe not 3.5 but a good flick nonetheless.

My fave Tarantino flick since Resevoir Dogs.

Count me with the group that enjoyed it. I'm not a particular fan of Tarantino, but the film had its tongue firmly in cheek and I thought it was well-done overall.

The first viewing in the theater, it seemed long but was very interesting and entertaining.

Subsequent viewings don't feel long at all and were much more enjoyable.

It's the "Spies Like Us" syndrome.

I enjoyed it, but the "forehead card game" scene was intolerable. I'd watch it again, but it's not something that obsesses me (On the other hand, I used to force my friends to watch Kill Bill. I was a Kill Bill evangelist. We all quoted/referenced it...one of my all time favorite movies). IB is my least favorite Tarantino film other than Death Proof, which I haven't seen.

I worry that Tarantino will become like Hemingway in his later years, sort of a self-parody of his own style.

Wow, I liked the Prequels so what I consider a bad movie has to be pretty bad people. :lol ;) ;)

I should add too that I do love WW2 movies too.

It might not be a matter of "good" or "bad," just different tastes. I hate Saving Private Ryan with a burning passion. I think it's a horrible movie. But the Oscars loved it...people look for all kinds of different things in a film, and I can totally see why someone wouldn't get into IB.

I hated it when I first seen it in theaters, I was expecting something totally different, but after watching it again knowing what to expect I liked it a lot more.

I felt that it did happen with IB.

While Cristoph Waltz was excellent, and Brad Pitt was tolerable (thanks to not using his character a whole lot) many of the scenes were just way too drawn out, moving beyond suspense and entering into "hurry up and do something....anything" viewing.

I was horribly disappointed.

What is? Sorry, not following.

Yeah, it really was. Sorry.

See, I can be patronising and dismissive of other's views, too :rolleyes

Or should that be :unsure

Either will do...

Cristoph Waltz is the best Film Nazi Ever, I cheered when he won the Oscar. I love IB, it's one of those movies that if you don't like it at first, you may down the line. The STNG episode "Masks" is like that for me. First viewing I HATED it, now, one of my favorites of the series.

I'm with you - I really couldn't get into the movie. I understand how some may like the cartoon characters and cheap thrill experience of it - but i thought it was stupid and boring. QT's storytelling is top notch, I just didn't like the whole Apache resistance thing.

I enjoyed it, but the "forehead card game" scene was intolerable...

Boy, I loved that scene. The suspense was great. Just building and building until all hell breaks loose. Weird how the same scene can provoke two different reactions. But hey, that's the world.
