Indiana Jones - The Cup of a carpenter (not the ususal one)

Here's a little project I made lately: The Cup of a Carpenter

A couple of weeks ago a member of another Indy board did a run of wooden Last-Crusade-Grails.

I decided to get one too, but not do the usual movie version. Instead I planned to make a cup, which looks like a real ancient wooden cup of a carpenter.
Some research brought up several pictures of such ancient vessels.

So first the grail was dyed with dark brown wood stain.

After weathering I put on a layer of food safe clear coat.

As you can see the cup ended up with an undesired high gloss finish, so I dulled it a little with fine sand paper. And done!

I hope you like it!

As well many thanks for sharing the idea and tutorial... would you mind sharing the maker/brand of the "food safe clear coat"!?

many thanks in advance and again... congrates to a very unique grail-Cup you have in your collection now!

Depends on what you want to achieve. Looks like you're aiming for a movie version. I suggest a more covering reddish (terracotta?) paint and give it a basic paint job. Then mark the positions where the gold-foil will be applied with pencil. Paint the markings with the glue, put on the foil and remove the excess material with a brush.
Then weather the cup with a highly thinned dark-brown colour.
