Indiana Jones Fertility Idol Paint

hello all:

i am going to purchase an indiana jones fertility idol piggy bank from diamond select toys--however, when i look at the paint job..it looks a bit dull and not exactly like "gold plating" --like the original prop.

Does anyone know what type of paint I should use to make it look more "shiny gold" ?

Thanks

You may have some problems just painting this right off the bat. It is a flexible type of plastic that will not take paint easily. Also this idol is a little bit bigger than the screen used version and more cartoonish looking (rounded corners and less defined). This would be better to cast it in resin and then paint.

Never seen a good Gold Chrome paint, but I'm sure the one from Killerchrome is probably the closest you'll be able to find. Keep in mind I've never used it but have seen how the regular chrome looks which is pretty impressive.

The killer chrome paint would cost a lot more than the idol so would making a mold and casting in resin.
There has to be a cheap method rub'n'buff ?

Take heed. The bank is vinyl, it doesn't take well to standard paint leaving it sticky forever. You're better off leaving it the way it is, which honestly, doesnt suck too bad. If youwant it "right", you're better off with resin or fiberglass if you're looking to plate it.

Or if you absolutely HAVE to repaint this, base it with black krylon fusion (test first for compatability) and then use either Gold leaf or gold rubb n' buff.

I saw somebody at COW doing this, and the result seemed very nice... It's not that bad idea...

I would love to see any photos of anybody that has already do it.

A guy over at the COW did indeed do a nice job. He sealed the bottom and the rear coin slot, removed the hair band and some other things before he painted it. It turned out REAL nice. Then he posted a tutorial. Check it out. I have zero talent, but he made it sound pretty simple.
