Indiana Jones Fertility Idol Help

I bought this a couple of years ago but never been happy about the finish I did a couple of patch job but just think it looks totally wrong. I was wondering how to get about making her nice gold and shiny (nice technical terms eh?,) unlike the dull gold that she currently is, but I am not sure how to go about it.

I am not sure what she is made from but in the picture close up showing the bit of wear and tear you can hopefully see she is made of a white material and pretty heavy so not sure that would change how to go about getting the result I am after.

Hope someone out there can help me as never attempted anything like this and could really do with a bit of advice

Probably your best bet is to, give it a light sand to get rid of all the loose paint, lumps and bumps - Go to B&Q and grab a spray can of Plasticote Metallic Gold paint (£5.99), and just simply give it a couple of new coats of the gold paint (lightly to avoid runs).

I finished my idol up around 3 months ago, and the Plasticote metcallic gold worked a treat.

Oh and forgot to add, no doubt if it feels like plastic, its more than probably cast in Resin.

Plating may be the best route, but it'll be more expensive than you probably want to go. For spray can paints, I'd had great luck with Krylon's "Premium Gold Foil Metallic". I'm not sure how easily you'll be able to get it in Scotland, but I've used it on a few different items now and it has a nice shine to it. You can tell it's painted, of course, but it's a decent compromise.

Here are a couple of good threads about gold options in the past:

That's great, thank you looks like I have a couple of options. Thanks for the links and I'll nip to B&Q tomorrow and have a look , no harm getting a can of the plati kote and giving it a try to see before I go for it on the idol.

You have both been a big help! :D
