Did anybody see the dial in person at any of the premiers or exhibits? I have seen pictures in several locations. Just wondering if anyone got any measurements.
Also, after studying the photos I have I can see what looks to be like two slightly different props that have been on display. The damage is a little different in some areas, even the artwork/engravings have some differences, the one on the right is missing a little flame/thorn (red circle in picture), the fonts are slightly different, some of the white tiles are in different spots, and the outer needle is in a different spot. The one on the left also seems to be made with mother of pearl as the white background and has a shinier gold surface (vacuum metalized probably). So perhaps we are looking at the hero and stunt versions.
Anyway, I am looking at that outer needle and it seems like it should move but I don't see any tracks on the original. It is in a slightly different position on each of the dials. I am open to ideas. I could create a track and do my best to hide it but it is not there on the original prop. Otherwise, it is looking like that needle is fixed in place. Would you rather have a screen accurate prop without the track for the outer needle or a more functional prop where the outer needle would slide around as it seems like it should? PS - I am working on some designs to make the inner needles functional as well.

It's a static prop. I touched it. Molded in place pieces. I didn't try to move everything but did touch the dials on the sides. It's possible it can separate but at the time I took pictures, I didn't know it was 2 pieces.
I took my pictures at Florida Hollywood studios and are identical to the right. The left is not the same one on display in Florida so it can be a better addition or a touring addition. Mine is bolted to the table. The left picture looks to be the ones behind glass from the touring exhibit
Great eyes showing the differences. Would love to see more
I'm seeing a huge difference in the dial on the arm. Sun is completely different and background ivory looks like a map where the gold doesn't show it

I followed everything you said except this part. I don't think I understand what you mean about this.

The lowest level of "mother of pearl" is actually more likely, abalone, in the Left Dial. The natural variations in the color and shape give the appearance of map like formations, but this is just how abalone looks, not really an intentional map.

I had originally estimated 10 inches across the flats and about 11.5 inches from point to point. I haven't printed it out yet to verify the scale. My pinky to thumb measurement is about 8.25". That seems a bit small. was that across the flats or point to point? Any idea about the thickness/depth?
It was definitely just outside my finger points on the long side. Just measured my points again and they're 8.75 . I'd say comfortably 10 inches. I'm pretty confident it wasn't past 11 and am holding to 10 or slightly over.

Right, I can't believe I didn't think about using the boards, lol. So, actual standard board measurements would be 1.5", 2.5", 3.5, 4.5" and so on. Based on the thickness of those boards, I think they used 1x2 (nominal) and 1x4 (nominal) boards to build the crate. That means the boards in the center are 3.5" wide and the dial should be right at 10 inches from point to point. There is a little room for variation with factors such as the tilt of the dial and camera perspective. Looks like you were right.

I know it's early to talk about the props other than the dial itself, so we can give more time for everyone to see it. However, I'm seeing at least 7 different props and a couple of paper goods coming right out of this film. So that gives us a lot of pieces to get going on. I started counting...

Those large thumb wheel looking things on the side don't actually move at all. Besides that they are static in the original prop, being that they are cut in two pieces would present a big problem with them actually moving in the device.
Yes. They don't move because I touched them. Don't know about the rest having moving parts or not. I was drawing attention to myself so I stopped
It is something I am currently working on the plan for. How long it takes will depend on the production method I use and I haven't gotten to that point yet. I am currently working out the gear mechanism with a simplified model. Aiming to get everything turning as seen in the scene where Voller is using it in the van

That's all have of the dial unfortunately. I did see on the Indiana jones prop hunters on Facebook has some of the back which I don't

Gonna try and take a little pole. Would you like to see the two arms of the dial spinning in the same direction as shown in the van when Voller uses it to get the coordinates or spinning in opposite directions as shown in the tomb when Voller first assembles the device?
The first scene, we see simple movement of the dial. The top arm spins counterclockwise and the bottom arm spins clockwise.
The second scene we see more complex movement of the dial. The two arms of the dial spin clockwise at different rates, the spiral part spins counter clockwise, and the disc part with the opening spins clockwise.
