Increase ones height?

I am contemplating making a costume and would need to increase my height by about 20cm, a lot I know!

After some brain storming we came to the conclusion that the best method would be some sort of heel / platform shoe like this:

I was going to make it out of wood but I felt it wouldn’t give enough; does anyone have any advice about what I could make it out off? Cork came to mind after following my girlfriend around a few shops and seeing cheap high heeled shoes... however I am at a loss as to where I can buy large blocks or cork.

Any suggestions? Or any other materials I could use

Moon boot Vader?

I've read people building up the soles of their boots/shoes with the rubber they use for soles.

Something like this could work.

I've had them ever since I was planning to make a Sauron costume - only got as far as the helmet. *L* They're women size 10 1/2 - if you're interested in them, PM me. :)

Duh, should have turned the tape measure around... that's only 9 centimeters... oh well.

Guri, yeah thats the type of thing im looking to make. I was hoping to get a block of something and cut them myself... any idea what those are made from?

All materials made in china is all it says... it's some kind of foam rubber, typical that you would see shoe soles are made out of.

If you found a sale on flip flops or something at the dollar store you could just glue them all together with fabric tac. Or do a search in wholesale and buy sole material in a roll and cut it yourself.

Shoe repair places will do this type of work as well if you're not sure about the buildup. Friend of mine had some mods made to a pair of boots and they didn't kill him on the upgrades. It'll cost but not in the numbers of say a custom pair of shoes.

Maybe something like this? I don't remember where I got this pic from but this is probably the best looking Vader boot with inside and outside lifts that I have seen. If I remember right. The guy had a shoe cobbler make them.

Maybe we could give you a better idea if you mentioned what your costume is going to be. So far all of these ideas have been designed to add height under your feet. Is there any possibility you could add a little bit on top of your head as well?

I'm 5'7" tall and by the time I finished my Predator costume I was 6'5" tall fully dressed. Four of those inches were height added on top of my head.

Just a thought.

I use a 3" INNER SHOE lift for my Vader costume. I wear a size 10 boot but I bought a size 13 Vader boot because the inner shoe lift is like putting on a high-heel shoe and then putting on a boot over that- I needed the extra room.

Barefoot I'm only 5'8" tall, but with the 1" of the actual boot, the 3" lift, and the extra height of the Vader helmet dome, I'm 6'4" in full comtume with an eyeline of 6 feet.

i use a 1 inch internal full sole lift. nothing on outside. 6' 2" barefoot and in full vader i push 6' 8"

Thanks for the opinions guys, im not actually wanting them for a Vader costume.

I have already tried stilts, but.. I dont know.. dont like them :) Far to bulky with that pole going up your leg. Plus they are very noisey.

Yeah I thought about adding height ontop of my head thorssoli, going to look into that! Going to pick up a few sandles, or some cheap cork heel shoes this week and experiement I think.

Havent managed to track down sole material yet in bulk.

If you start adding to the bottom of shoes, you had better consult a shoemaker for the right adhesive to use. I ended up with Durastilts because of the height of my Chewbacca. The higher you go, the more stress on the joint between the sole of the base shoe and the extension. As for the jumping stilts, due to their odd shape, they would not work very well for a humanoid type creature leg. Durastilts are too wide at the bottom, and the jumping stilts would be even wider.

Wrong time of year to buy flip flops in the shops :)

If only we had all eaten our veggies like Mom asked, we'd all be much taller nowadays! :lol

I suppose an afro wig is out of the question?
