I'm on a Gizmo mission! Need some advice.

Hi guys,

This is my first post here, I've been lurking for awhile and I'm blown away by the talent of some of you guys and your work at making good replicas even better. So I thought, where better to get advice than here?

I have a Ronculous Maximus Gizmo. I love him, the built quality is great.... But I have two issues with it that I'd like to make better. Firstly the eyes.

The eye balls themselves are just too human. The irises are too small and it's taking away from what is an otherwise pretty awesome Gizmo. I've seen a link on here to a company that will custom make the eye balls you want but my issue is, can these eye balls be changed now and if so does any one know a reputable company that would do it?

Secondly, the paint job on the nose and the ears could be more realistic. I'd like to see veins in his ears and a bit of toning in the different sections of the ears, plus his nose and mouth are all one color where as eagle eyed Gizmo fans would know that they are different colors in the movies. Also, Gizmo's nose and mouth always had that puppy dog wetness on them, I've no idea of what materials to use to create this look if anyone has any advice in that area? To be honest it's probably something I'd rather hand off to another reputable company if anyone could recommend one (particularly in Ireland or the UK but the states would be great too).

I've spoken to Ron about this and he said he's not doing anything Gizmo related again and that he's basically booked out for the next 18 months regardless. And at which stage he may stop replica making altogether which is a huge shame as the guy is such a talent.

I know the money involved would bring me up to the ECC Gizmo or a Howard S Gizmo price range, but while I love the awesome accurateness of the ECC Gizmo, I feel the bow and arrow takes away from him, especially with the flickering light. And with the Howard S Gizmo, for the money he's charging the accurateness simply isn't there (the ears compared to the ECC model for example, and I think the hands are too big).

So that's it guys, any help would be hugely appreciated as I've wanted the best Gizmo possible for the past 30 years and I'm only finally going about it now (better late than never I guess). Thanks and I look forward to being a more active member here as my collection grows.

Post pics - it will help draw in more interest in the thread - and help answer questions.

I've researched options for creating the wet look on some creatures. There's a product called Mohr Jaw Juice:

It's an adhesive used in taxidermy to mount tongues to jawsets. I've heard it provides a wet look when it dries and can be painted once cured to help blend edges.

You may also want to consider taxidermy eyes as an alternative for the eyes you have now.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link cckaiser2.

Here are a few close up shots I've taken of my Gizmo, just to note that in the close up of the eye ball, that's not veins in the eyes. It's just hair in front of the eyes. I also included a shot of his toe nails just because I like how they came out. As I say, I think it's an awesome piece over all, I just want to make it better if possible.

Exciting news! I've gotten in touch with a company here in Ireland who have made props for some big movies including Dracula Untold and they are doing to handle the repaint and changing the eye balls once we source proper ones (just awaiting a price from a company mentioned on these boards). I'll need a few weeks to get the money together but I'll post the finished result when it's done.

I'm hoping it's pretty epic because once I mailed the guys some close ups of my Gizmo they came straight back with images of Gizmo from the movie, pointing out the things missing and what they would do etc. Really looking forward to this!
