If you were going to replicate this...

Or what would you use? The sphere is about the size of a baseball...

Mmmm :confused

It allmost reminds me of a leg to a chair or table with a modified ball

The ball part I dont know about, but I would stop by places that sell and repair furniture and they may have a leg close enough to it

Thats a start

I agree with PHArchivist, it's a bed post.

Or a finial... Actually the finials look closer.

Correct Mike -- without casting... And I suck at carving and sculpting... :D

to me it looks like 3 parts: the stem, a cup and a sphere. The cup looks like the shape of a decorative glass light fixture shade. I'm sure you could find somthing like it. cast that part. Get a wooden ball at the craft store to work into the sphere shape to fit in the cup...

or you could forget all that and just pay someone to carve you a copy :p

a cup and a sphere.

I thought about that too...

But the more I look at finials on an image search, the more I'm convinced it IS a finial.

And I believe the stem is closest to either a furniture leg (as suggested), or perhaps the neck of a floor lamp.

No one has asked what that is... ;)

I'd wax it, do a plaster 1/4 cast then make a 1/2 silicone mould and cast it twice.
Then glue and clean up before painting / distressing.

its the P brand from Dead Man's Chest, been interested in this piece as well. Do keep us updated.

EDIT: PM me if you need some more high rez photos.
