Goh-fixed.jpgGohArt.jpgGoh.jpgHi its my first time building a costume and i have no idea how to build a costume so could someone give suggestions on how to make this costume

Step 1: make a list of every component of the costume you want to replicate. Step 2: use the advanced search tool at the top of the page. Step 3:Have fun!:)

I would suggest you buy some black cloth and learn to sew.

But as Bigdaddy nicely put it, use the Search function!
People here are happy to answer questions, but please don't just show up and expect people to do all the work for you.

Like Bigdaddy said, make a list of everything you want to replicate and what do you plan to use for it ! And If you want to sew it yourself, use a sewing machine because that's going to take a very long time at the hand.

Break it down into different parts and sections. Make each piece (ie: the boots, the belt, the pants, the gauntlets) their own little project. Take little bites.

Do all the hard pieces first and if you want to use foam like L-200 or L-300 for the armor or chestplate, gauntlets, greaves, boots, like Big Daddy said make a good list of what you need and do sketches of how you want it to look. Little steps and pretty soon you'll be done.

Have you done ANY research on how to begin this project or would you prefer we just handed you all the information? Better yet. Give your sizes and address. I'll build it for you and send it to you.
Go wait by your mailbox.

:lol SPANK THAT NOOB!!!!!!! :lol

HAHAHAHAAHA OH MAN! Ill wait three weeks by my mail box if you send me something!

The search function is your best friend on this site. I'll agree with the rest that breaking it down into components will make life easier. I usually do that first and then make a sub list under each component stating what is needed to make it. I also find that youtube and other blog type of sites can lend a helpful hand to those who find visual help the best. And last but certainly not least, have fun and don't give up. You will have days where you pull your hair out and you will have days that go awesome. Hang in there and good luck!

Well first untitled ninja...welcome to the best costuming and prop place ever! It's generally a good idea to jump on, search around, then start thinking about your project. I know overwhelming enthusiasm can sometimes trump patient research, but as you do build your costume it will teach you the value of patience and focused effort. So that said, do as those before me suggested...read, research, sketch, etc. Then post your progress and specific questions you have. You'll be a pro in no-time. ;)

Just at a glance this looks like it would take a half a grand to make on the cheap.

I would not recommend a costume like this for a first time build. It would take a lot of time, and resources. The amount of effort you would have to put into a costume like this would require a lot of dedication to finish. You may even have to ask yourself is it worth it?
Is this just something to wear a couple of hours at Halloween? Or something for a film, or competition that you really want to impress people with?
The amount of time put into a design like this would be the deciding factor on how good it looked. You could spend 4 hours on it and end up with a junky costume. Of you could put 4 months of work into it and have something that you could film for a movie.

If you can not sew buy what you can. Either at the store, or online. You can modify clothes you find at thrift stores too.

Then you can focus on the things you will have to make. The two methods people choose are sculpting, molding, casting? Or fabrication out of foam, worbla, or plastic/ wonder flex.

When searching on how to make something don't look for just ninja costume builds. Try researching people's armor builds to see how they created their shin, and arm guards. They may not look exactly like the ones you are making but the same methods could be used.
Example.

Here is a video that runs through how to use foam mats to make armor.

As I do understand that research and looking around the world wide web would be a very good place to start. Untitledninja may be a little excited to really get into his project and learn how to start his project. I dont think he came in here for someone to turn around and say SPANK THAT NOOB. Did you come into this line of work or profession, knowing everything and never having to ask a question of anybody? doesnt seem very constructive or very helpful.

He posted his first ever post on the forums, basically saying "tell me how do do everything", without any obvious research being done on his part. In fact the only effort he did make was to Bold and increase the size of his text.

What the majority of people do (myself included), if they are new to prop making was search/read the forums. Make a start on your project then ask sensible questions when you get stuck or if you are not clear about something.

Also, FYI, coming in with your first post to call people out and say that they are not helpful really isn't the best way to join this community, who for your information, are one of the most helpful communities I have had the pleasure to experience on the internet.
