I have finally seen all of the Indiana Jones movies on the big screen in a proper theater, which is one last thing I wanted to do before I die.
I saw it here in Minneapolis at the Trylon Microcinema as part of a summer Spielberg retrospective. Trylon Microcinema is exactly what it sounds like: a tiny movie theater. It's about 1/10 th the size of an actual movie theater, but the sound system is dolby and the movie was shown on (an albeit well-worn) 35 mm print.
The ticket cost me $8, which is about 2 dollars cheaper than any other theater. The popcorn with real butter was $2 and soda and candy were $1. Taxes were included in the pricing. I might be able to take my wife to see Jaws this weekend for $20 or so. No commercials, but they did show the original E.T. teaser trailer and a vintage 'pitch-in your trash' PSA.
If you are in Minneapolis, I highly urge you to check out the theater.
Another cool part of seeing Raiders was the dad and kid sitting next to us hadn't seen the movie before. Every stunt, fight, and joke was absolutely new to him. I can't wait until I can take my kids to see a classic at this theater again.
