Just finished making my first shield from the Zelda series. If I have one regret its that i messed up the silver frame, and used to much paint

I think that's great work and you shouldn't undermine yourself. I noticed that the blue background on the top is raised slightly, like an air bubble. Was there an issue there?

It was my first time using paper foam, I used to much paint on it and it raised

Looks pretty good for a first try. Your second will be better!

Take a look at all the awesome props built here and rest assured that every single one of us started with a sh**ty birdhouse. :lol

Trial and error is the only real way to learn IMO. I've seen much worse first efforts than yours. :)

I do love this community, any tips on how to cut the foam board better, and what to use for paint? I kind of want a more metal look to it

When cutting foam board you need the sharpest xacto knife you can find. Sharp = no tear out.

It's difficult to get a proper metal look with paint. Krylon sprays are pretty good though.

Have you thought about routering this out in wood for a little more of a genuine weight and feel?

It can be tricky using paper foam, but we've definitely all started on a learning curve. Myself especially.

Other than that, perhaps making a mould and recasting it with a metal powder might get the effect your looking for?..

Search for it on RPF anyway, I know I've seen alot of similar or identical builds with different outcomes.
