This calls to me for Halloween this year. But it breaks a few of my costume rules. Anyone else thinking about this one?

I went through an EOD prep course when I was active duty (I was an Army Ordnance officer) and had to wear a different version of this suit. The thing weighed about 70 or so pounds if I remember correctly. NO WAY would you ever get me into one for fun, even a lighter copy of it.
Besides, I hated the movie. Any similarities between this movie and the actual US Army are purely coincidental, trust me. :thumbsdown

Here are my initial ideas.
The base of the suit is an over sized OD flight suit with some kind of material insert to fill it out a bit. I also plan on a cooling fan to blow air in which will help the wearer to keep cool and puff up the suit a bit.
You can get a cheep modular snowmobile helmet on Ebay

Starting on the prototype to get the right materials and look.
This is 1/2 in foam with an OD fabric attached with spray adhesive.

It's getting there. Lot's more details to add, but you get the basic idea.
I have a "blast" helmet on order (ebay) and EOD patches "If you see me running, try to keep up!"

The helmet makes it. Still need to add knee pads, forearm protectors...

I found an ebay vendor selling cheep knockoffs of real helmets. I would not trust my brainpan to one of these, but for $30 it is perfect.

Ya I was looking at these....the real things cost $18,000....considering the cost of screen-used props that's not bad.....:ninja

Progress going well. I am making 7 of these for buddies of mine for Halloween. Nothing says fun like a whole bomb squad in a crowded bar. I am going to consolidate some of the other threads I had going for the Cooling fan and Fabric glue. Actually the "coolest" effect is the blue led fan in the back of the helmet. It is that weird scifi blue. I have 14 of the climbers Headlamps being shipped from China. So two on each helmet in the front.
I am also going to document a "step by step" in case anyone else wants one. The big issue is sourcing the materials. I am buying in bulk online, otherwise you get raked with shipping for each little item. I have been getting a lot of help from some current and past EOD guys, so I will be auctioning off a suit to raise some money.

i got the foam from Joanne Fabrics. They usually have 1/2 price coupons for one item. It is the most expensive item other than the helmet.

Your suit looks awesome!

Would you mind sharing what you did for the knee pads and the chest protector?

Did you make them both, or buy them?

Thinking of making a suit too - and bought some 1/2" foam from Joanns today..

I have used different materials for the "black" armor pieces. I cut up my wife's yoga mat for some of them. OOPS!
I also found clearance snow sleds at Target which had a cool texture.

I got a bunch of Patches off of ebay.
