How to trim expanding foam?

Hello all! I have a new bust that was filled with expanding foam and covered with (plaster?) something. I need to trim the foam back for finishing, and the xacto knife isn't doing it! What are your ideas for trimming/cutting expanding foam?! Thanks!

Thread! Couple of pieces of dowel and length polyester or cotton thread between to make a mini-cable saw. Work at a speed that doesn't break or overheat the thread...as long as the 'thermal failure point' of the thread is higher than the melt temp of the plastic, it should "cut" it fine.
