How to Train Your Dragon is awesome!

Now I must see it. I had no idea that the guy behind Lilo and Stitch were making it. Awesome.

This one was already on my "gotta see it" list. I remember the very first trailer I saw months ago before I knew Chris Sanders, (BIG fan of his!), was involved, the first time I saw the black dragon I remember thinking "Man, he really has a heavy Chris Sanders influence!" Later I knew why. :) I love that guys style since first seeing his concept and storyboard work on The Lion King.

Can't wait to see this one!

I'm very much looking forward to taking my four year old to see this tonight! The art of book is GREAT, btw:)

I have a few friends who have worked on it since the beginning stages, and they were always raving about it to me. And it has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is INSANE!!! :eek

Does Dreamworks rely on heavily on pop culture references in this flick like they do in others?

No real pop-culture references in this. Think of it in terms of Kung Fu Panda.

Did Chris Sanders leave Disney because of what they did with Bolt? I wonder if this has the makings of a revenge flick LOL after what Lasseter did to it and that movie tanked.

Chris had creative differences with Disney over American Dog (which would later be re-titled Bolt). Not sure on the exact details, but they didn't see eye to eye and he left, and Disney hired new directors and completely changed the story. He told me he was working on a Caveman movie right after he left Disney, but this was before he got hired on for Dragon. Dreamworks was pretty far into the creative process before bringing on Chris, and a lot was changed after he started. A lot of the character designs were changed pretty late in the game to match his style. Anyway, not so much of a revenge flick, just a great movie in it's own right.

Such a shame that Crude Awakening (the Sanders caveman movie) has been scrapped. John Cleese was one of the writers, the whole thing was looking real funny too.

I think KFP and Dragon are worlds apart. While I love KFP, I feel it was pure escapism, where as I feel Dragon completely engages you and even invests the viewer emotionally.

Totally agree, I only meant in terms that Dragon doesn't have much in pop culture references, same as Kung Fu Panda.

Just got back from seeing it with my son. Very enjoyable flick(y)thumbsup
I would love to see a couple of the props in this film made!

:lol^ actually, the dragon identification book, and a replica scaled down Viking ship would be money....but yeah a catapult would do too;)

Ok, Stig is 1 for 1 on movie pics. I knew it would be good, but it was really good.

Are we getting sequel?
Did vikings have catapults, I didn't figure vikings catapults and trebuchets.

I guess it does not really matter if Vikings had catapults or trebuchets. I know they did'nt have Scottish accents, and their children American accents:lol Still a fun movie though:thumbsup

Nope. It was mostly devoid of any Shrek-isms.

My wife and I just saw this tonight, and we both loved it. I can honestly say that it is the best movie that I have seen in a very long time. All movies should be this good.

No talking animals! :lol

While I love the movie, it's a shame we don't have a 2D movie that looks like that

We actually saw it in 2D. I hate that everything is in 3D these days. They usually have 2 or 3 scenes where the 3D really pops, while in the rest of the movie the 3D is barely noticeable. The glasses are uncomfortable. They charge you extra for the glasses and then want you to recycle them after the movie, so they can re-sell them again.

I really enjoyed the movie! Good story, excellent cg animation and a gutsy ending. While Dreamworks may be disappointed that the movie didn't make 60+ million opening weekend, with the strong word of mouth this movie is getting, I wouldn't be surprised if it sticks around for awhile.

^^^

This may be a case of folks needing to tell two friends and so on... with the upcoming 3D crap-fest and current bidders for 3D space, the numbers may keep it in theaters for a time, but maybe not on 3D screens. That said, 3D is not essential to the effort, as only two sequences seem like they would be less 'exciting', but you'd still feel the fun of them.

I took my 4 year old daughter to see this last night. I loved it... it was a bit on the intense side for her (all kids are different of course) but I gave her a lot of reassurance that all the nice vikings weren't about to die horrible deaths and she made it through okay. ;)

Toothless was awesome. I loved his expressions and personality. I'm no animation expert - just the average scifi geek - but I really thought he was designed and animated incredibly well. I'm gonna have to look for one of those Toothless action figures at the local TRU when I get the chance.

And the story was good too... a bit predictable which is to be expected but still very enjoyable in the details, characters and dialog. I really did get a kick out of the flying sequences too but I just watched it in 2D. Would be cool to see again in 3D.

I saw it last night and loved it! It's great to see a movie with a good story and well told, seems to be rare in a lot of movies these days. :rolleyes I'm not usually one that goes in for the whole "gotta see it in 3D" thing, but this one really utilizes it VERY well! It adds so much depth and really pulls the viewer in!

I love Toothless! You can really tell he's from the hands of Chris Sanders because he looks like Stitch in dragon form. ;) I had a couple of people say that to me as well.

I might just have to see this one again!

I think this one will be around for a while. My city has two theaters, about a mile apart. I have never, ever seen them have the same movie at both places before. I guess they realize that they would be splitting profits, so they always pick different movies to show. They are both showing this one in both 3D and 2D, so I think they are expecting it to be a hit.
