Hi guys,
i struggled for a little while (as im sure alot of people have) on deciding what paint colours to use to get the best effect for a facehugger.
i found, in my opinion, the best and cheapest way to paint a facehugger.
its actually really easy, i painted my 1:1 facehugger and i think it came out perfect!
again, this is just in my opinion guys, like i said, its most likely the easiest way to get the good effects, if you think you have a better way etc then please share.
anyway, the model i painted was a lifesized version and it was a vinyl model kit.
The paints i used were all from games workshop. if you havent heard of it then just type it into google.
they specialise in miniature models, but they aslo sell paints!
i painted my whole facehugger with four colours!!!! (thats right, you heard me,lol)
The good news too is that each paint tub was only 12ml and it was enough, also each tub only costs around £2.99!!
with the exception of one. for my undercoat i made the mistake of painting it black first, this is obviously a mistake, as you have to apply about 50 layers to get rid of the black background with a near white colour. so after i realised this i spray painted the rest white. so i recommend that you buy a skull white spray can which will cost around £9.99, it will save you alot of time.
unfurtunately, they dont sell all of their colours as a spray paint so you will have to hand paint the rest.
So, now for the colours, (when buying these make sure you look for the exact names) as above, you should buy skull white (in spray or 12ml tub) and use that for your undercoat.
Then there is screaming skull which you will use to paint the whole facehugger. (except the vulva thing which goes on the face, lol)
then there is mephiston red which you will use to paint the vulva part, (first paint it in the complete colour then mix a little skull white with it and dry brush the vulva part to bring out the details more.)
Then there is seraphim sepia which is like a brown water. once you have painted the whole thing in screaming skull then all you have to do is dip your brush in this, slosh it on a section , leave it a few seconds and then dab up the excess with some kitchen roll or toilet roll. it will fill all of the tiny spaces and really bring out the detail.
Then last but not least you will want to buy ardcoat , ardcoat is not a colour, it is a clear coat, i would put a good coat or two on with this as i think it completes the facehugger brilliantly, they always look like they are wet and moist facehuggers so this gives them that look. (also it will protect your paint job.)
so, thats it. how to paint your facehugger cheaply and only in four colours (and one clear coat) im sure you could throw loads of other colours in the mix to make it look absoloutley amazing but i think this looks amazing, with minimal effort and with minimal stress on the wallet.
you can get all paints for around £22 max!!
here is my facehugger for you to judge for yourself. i also included the black facehugger and the paints. (please note, i know the assembly on the model isnt amazing but i am just explaining the paint job.)
any questions let me know.
