How to make Rings?

Hello and sorry in advance for maybe not being in the right thread.

For years now I wanna get into prop making but that seems to be ultra expensive to do.

Many plans exist but lack of ressources means i have nothing physical to show.

anyway for now I thought maybe rings arent as expensive to make but cant find ANYTHING online of the matter.
you can find lots of stuff for making rings out of coins or wires but thats not interesting for me.

THATS more like it but how could one without any tools go about it?

sculpt it out of wax, make a plaster mold, melt some coins or scrap and pour it in?
what if I would like to have a permanent mold in order to make more rings out of one sculpt? what about different ring sizes?

what ways are there to make such rings?

I am very sorry to bother any of you but just can not find viable ways online, have no tools and pretty much no money (now jobless so at long last i have time so there is that) at my disposal and can not think of much since I never did craftsmenship of any kind (just wanted to do so for many years now)

kind regards

If your talking metal rings you have a few options.

I've done the stuff below with silver, bronze, copper etc... Of course this was at college where I was a metalsmithing major and had access to casting ovens and other equipment

Lost Wax Casting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost-wax_casting

Electroforming - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroforming

Fabrication - All you need is sheet metal, or rods, something to heat it up, and pound it in to shape or saw/cut up and solder shapes together

As far as the lost wax casting, or the electroforming, you may be able to make a master and have a service or jewler cast it for

Additionally, If you can model the ring in 3D software, you can have a master 3D printed in wax, and then used for molding & casting, or simply 3D printed in metal.

Hi blakeh1
the fabrication in itself is what gives me headaches. as i said i do not have any tools and before i buy any id like to know the cheapest method of making rings like for example those shown in the picture.

just looked up electroforming but why do i need that? give whatever i want a nickel or copper coating? sorry could you please expain the usage of it?

cant lost wax casting just be done one time if its with metal? up to this point i only know of the method of sculpting with wax, making a mold out of plaster, casting whatever metal you want, destroy the mold and get your cast. meaning its a one time thing. right? is there another method?

Mike J. i dont even have a bed right now so i will never ever have 3D printing tools. sorry but that doesnt help me. thank you for answering anyway.

Bam! Ring...

thank you sean for the help thats actually a pretty good idea!

as long as it is a flat ring without a thingy on top and even less when there is also a kind of stone in the thingy. how would you go about that?

sorry for my stupidity...

You can still shape the top with files and polishing. If you get a thick enough pipe I have seen people inset jewels like the photo above as well as make the top flat and almost box shaped up top. Plus you can add scroll work with a dremel to give the sides designs or writing.

I think Gordon and moviefreak have some good tips. and wanting to learn something Is far from stupidity. If you have the desire to learn and put effort Into what you've learned and create something from that. then I would call that pretty dam smart...:thumbsup
