how to cast your own hands?

I would like resin castings of my own hands in specific poses... what would be the best method for this? Thanks!

I've never done casting myself, but when I was a kid there was a cart in the mall that did hand castings and my sister and I each got one. They basically had two buckets, one with cold water and one with hot wax (the wax wasn't burning hot, maybe it was a low temp melting point wax or something like that.) Basically they had you dip your hand in the water, then the wax, then the water, etc until the coating of wax was decently thick and then you pulled your hand out (I don't know if this would rip out any hair on your hands as I did it when I was a kid.) They poured in plaster, but you could pour in just about anything, like resin.

yeah I had that done at the renaissance festival w/ my gf years ago... I didnt know if the heat of resin curing would melt the wax. I read about alginate, but it says its water based and not to cast with it using anything that cant have water in it to cure (like resin). But I know people do this all the time... so whats the trick?

Check out Mythbusters, they have done some great hand molds over the years using Algenate(sp?) and used an air hose to get their hands out of the mold due to specific poses required.

Yea, a good example is when they tested the myth that you could stop a sword blade with your palms. Pretty sure they cast Grant's hands in that episode.

Well, if you cut off your hands, you could probably use regular ole RTV that cures up in 12 hrs. Might be hard to mix it up though.......

when i worked at a prop shop, i had my arms, from the elbow down to the hands, cast for a frankenstein display. one of the owners wanted it for his house...

i sat down, with my hand hanging into a bucket, we then filled it with alginate and waited till it set...

to get my hand out, i had to wiggle it around a little bit, and slowly pulled it out...we then filled it with plaster,

we then had to clean up the plaster hands, youll probably get airbubbles due to the pose of the hands, then molded the plaster hand, and cast them in resin.

my arm got kind of sore, holding it still in the position i was in for so long. and that was the hardest part.
