How to cast translucent (not transparent) parts?

Hi.

I’m looking to cast a few small translucent (not transparent/clear) parts that will be back lit for my Iron Giant Bolt project.

One thought is to cast them with clear resin and rough/texture the back of them, but I would prefer to cast them in a material that is inherently cloudy.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Right now the best idea I’ve come up with is to add a small amount of white pigment to the clear resin.

Any and all experience and advice is appreciated.

You can buy resin that is translucent... I don't know if smooth on sells it (I'm sure they do) but my local brand (silpak) does.

Is it for the half-sphere area?

If so (and if it doesn't have to be a solid piece for some reason) vacforming the parts in translucent HIPS might be an option.

No. Its for some small insert pieces for the lights. "lenses" for lack of a better term.

if it was me i'd use clear resin by tap and ad their dye colors to it...here's a link
