How many Millenium Falcon models were built?

...Another use where the 5 foot Falcon popped up was in a couple publicity images from Jedi. As I recall, the 5 footer was used in a still shot with a couple X-Wings in the Death Star tunnels when to my knowledge, the 32 was used for the shots in the film. I also had a poster at one time from ROTJ which was a battle sequence around the Death Star and if I remember correctly, it was the 5 footer in the center with the two extra leg pods(based on the cockpit lighting) not the 32"...

Actually those were both the 32in model.

JM, the ROTS ship actually has proportionally taller sidewalls than the MPC. It's so tall that the docking rings on each side are actually elliptical, not round...

The two photos of the ROTS ship are so weird anyway I wouldn't consider their shapes to be canon (since they are pre-production artwork and not finished shots). The one or two screen caps I've seen from the DVD show the ship that ultimately appeared to be the digital falcon mesh designed for the SE versions of the original trilogy, but with the blue trimmed paintjob. I imagine it shows up better in the Bluray version of the film.

I've received a few requests for more of my pictures of the 5 foot Falcon so I'll just post all the ones I took here. I'm surprised no one else has posted any of these here. There were lots of people taking pictures of that model but I've yet to see any posted anywhere. I hope my photos are usefull to anyone that wanted them. Enjoy. :)

Edit: Seems I'm having trouble uploading my pics directly on this forum so I just put them all in a zip file so they can be downloaded all at once. Sorry if this inconveniences anyone.
Here's the link for the file.

Thanks for the pics. There's been hundreds of them on the web, but everyone captures a different angle. Lots to see still and every shot helps :thumbsup

That's the same display I saw at the Smithsonian in the early 90s. The small ship is from the Neb B shot at the end of Empire.

Just going by memory here, but I think the "five footer" was used in the shot where the dish gets knocked off. And when it swoops toward camera before the fleet goes to hyperspace.

In general if the shot was fairly "static" - the image of the Falcon was not moving all that much or moving slowly, basically anything where you can pretty clearly see the detail of the model - the 5 footer was used ESB forward. Shots that were kinda "medium" where the falcon was moving a good bit utilized the 32" falcon... and shots where the falcon was very small used either the 10 incher or the 2 incher... there are exceptions to all of these rules of thumb however, but in general that's how it went with the 5 footer and the 32" taking up 99% of the shots.

The 2 major exceptions to this I beleive are the 32 was used in the space slug and on the back of the SD (closeup) since building an "environment" to scale with the 5 footer was much more work.

All SE added/modified shots of the Falcon are based off the 32" falcon. Including the shots where its escaping the Deathstar - the additional front landing gear pods are clearly visible when they "shouldn't" be in this movie since they didn't show up until ESB... but that is pretty nit-picky...

I've just thrown in the ROTJ dvd and it was the 32 inch flying through the fleet just prior to the hyperspace jump. It can be identified through the shape of the cockpit cone which is a lot sharper than the 5ft'er.

However, it is the 5ft Falcon which gets the radar knock off flying through the Death Star. This can be identified by the dents in the overhanging armour as well as the two missing parts on the docking ring which were clearly not there at the time of filming ROTJ.

Just watched the new "bonus material" in the blu-ray box set (mostly on discs #8 & #9). There's some good stuff in there about the Falcon models although I only saw the four versions mentioned at the start of the thread. Good viewing nonetheless.

Most of the DS scenes of the Falcon in ROTJ were the 5 footer - if you look at the shots from the perspective of only how much the falcon moves through the frame, or if its a "relative" close-up. The dish getting smoked was pretty close up :thumbsup "too close" to quote Lando :lol

Also another thing to note the scene you mentioed flying through the fleet before hyperspace - es its the 32" falcon but its also the exact same flight pattern only in the opposite direction as the beginning of the asteroid sequence in ESB... and yes only complete freaks like us would ever notice :)

There was also this model:

This image is from the ESB "making of" TV special. I suspect it was attached to the underside of the medical frigate model for the wide shot at the end of ESB. (The 32" was used for the closer shot.)

Has anyone built or have any more pictures of these two models? I'm guessing they are the two inch and 10 inch models.
