annoying as hell, anyone know how to disable this thread preview when my mouse cursor hovers over a thread?

driving me nuts.

windows 7 build 7022
firefox 3.06

i've disabled it in my folder options ... but in this messageboard, i get the popup descriptions of the thread... and i can't for the life of me figure out where to disable it.

1) type about:config in the address bar and press enter

2) scroll down to browser.chrome.toolbar_tips and double click on it (value should change from true to false).

I'm sorry... All that happens is that it makes the page go white, with no commands or anything. Or is that a command that's strictly for Firefox?

I'd love to shut it off as well. It IS annoying. And yeah, I'm using Chrome.

The instruction I posted are for Firefox. I have Chrome on a different computer; I'll try to check it out later today.

Wow, that's very cool of you. I did a search through Google, but I couldn't find anything productive. All I could find were your instructions for Firefox.

Thanks! :)

Well unfortunately I have been unable to find a way to turn off tooltips in Chrome. The program has very few settings that can be tweaked and so far there is almost no documentation for what can be controlled via the "preferences" file.

This is one of the major downsides to proprietary software.

Geez, there has to be something within the settings to disable this...
Something about Alt Attributes or the like.

This is really fricken annoying and it seems only a fix that can be done on the side of the website.

How do you turn it of for the Safari users here?
Not very familiar with Safari, but here is what I found.

Safari has a hidden preference to do this. To disable tooltips in Safari, open up the Terminal application (in the Applications/Utilities folder) and paste the following line:

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitShowsURLsInToolTips 0

Then press enter. You will need to quit and reload Safari for changes to take effect. Repeat with a 1 at the end instead of a 0 to reverse this. Note that tooltips are disabled by default in Safari 3. You can use this to enable them.
