Hot melt rubber

In Thurston James' book The Prop Builder's Molding and Casting Handbook, he refers to "hot melt rubber." This seems to be a PVC compound that is flexible and can be heated and poured into nearly any kind of mold. It appears to be different than hold melt adhesives but related, perhaps? I can't find any references online to a product specifically called "hot melt rubber." I'd like to find samples of this because it seems like it would be a really good candidate for an art project I'm exploring that involves 50 small figurines to be cast.

Is there such a beast as hot melt rubber?
