Horn Of Gondor

You may have seen this mentioned a while back by another member hoping to turn this comission into a "group order'. Here's an update, after having to have to take some time off for health reasons, the sculpts are beginning to shape up.

First look...

More details laid in, and some small changes made...

After a little more tweaking, the upper ring section shown here will be replicated 4 times, with an alteration made to the uppermost section to accomodate the rings for hanging.

Stay tuned more more.

Yes. The people who made the original commission were interested in having the piece be made on a real horn, so the first two I'm making will have cast pieces mounted on a real horn. For future copies, I plan to cast resin horns so that the shape and size will be consistant. Also, the multiple horns made for filming appear to have been cast copies so that they would all be identical from one to the next, so it also be more "authentic" to do it that way.

Wow...that is really really amazing mate... I love it.

Now if I may ask a noob question. When making something like this...did you just lay a base around the horn and then sketch a pattern out? Following the details with your...umm...clay?

Also....a run being done?

I did a few preliminary sketches based on available photos of the real item. The I calculated a workable size and procured a pair of horns of the right size and shape. Then, using the size of the portions of the horn that needed to be banded, I worked up a set of patterns that I divided into four parts so I could begin to work out the sculpts.

I'm not doing a "run" per say, due to other commitments, but I will taske a limited number of orders if there is interest.

I'm glad you took a stab at this project. You're off to a GREAT start... This has been one of those props that has been overlooked way too much IMO. Your photos alone should inspire others as well.

Thanks. I almost didn't take on this project, due to other commitments and health issues, but now that it's under way, I can't wait to see it finished myself.

:)

A little update for our impatient Gondorians...

Upper band sculpt, almost finished. Again, this section will be duplicated 4 times around the full diameter of the band.

You're right, the detail IS amazing. I've seen the actual project in person and (as good as these shots are :thumbsup .) to actually see it in real life is ten times ( :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup ) as amazing.
Trust me, this is going to be an interesting project to watch. B)
