Hook (1991) Rufio Sword Replication: Lots of Large pics of the SCREEN USED Sword!

I'm over in Florida. I make blades on the side as a hobby, so making a bronze blade wasn't too difficult for me. With the tools you mentioned, it could be really difficult to make a nice blade, but it may be easy to make a reasonable prop that is close enough. With a dremmel, you may want to use brass instead of bronze, and easy to find. You can get a plate from homedepot or lowes and cut a blade shape out. many ways to do it. :)

Well if you'd be willing to take a commission - let me know ! I want to get the measurements hammered away - then I'll be working on this asap !

Hey - anyone wants to take a crack at scaling this thing - by all means! I wish I had thought to measure it at the time... damn

-AJ

A very quick and crude scaling gave me a total length of 695.25 mm (27.37") and a blade width of 25.466 mm (1.002"). Assuming the blade is in fact 1" wide, we could say the total length is right around 27 1/4" - 27 3/8".

What do you think, AJ?

I think it's 1.5 inches in width or one and a quarter - 1 seems too small and I've yet to hammer out the length yet... tempted to just ask Mr.Basco, but unless I had a serious Blacksmith or something that wanted to replicate this - I would be hesitant to take advantage of his kindness.

1" does seem a little thin to me as well. I'm hoping my scaling is not that far off, but I've been wrong before. It couldn't hurt to ask, assuming he'd be willing to share.

I have friends that can do gold electroplating at their work, but I'm also looking into bronze since cost is an issue at the moment. I've had a barren space on my wall just waiting for a Pan sword for too long.

Hey guys - quick update - gonna look through some video footage of the sword for some more angles and gonna try to see if I can scale it.

Maybe captainEO will re-weigh in On this thread with the dimensions for his stunt sword. The diameter of the hand guard and the blade length/width/thickness would be particularly helpful

Really, I've heard that the original actor died, but this guy looks like him... wow... I was a little bit confused when I saw the pics...

Very cool sword, give that man a Rufio costume.... :lol

Rufio! Rufio! Ru-fi-oooooooooo! :)

Not the actor, the character died .. I think that was what he was refering too. (I read it that way the first time as well though)

Btw, I'm definitly willing to make a few more of these if we can get some better dimensions. The first one I made was all based on guesses.

Yeah Dante is alive and kicking, he apparently gets that a lot that he "died" - an odd rumor.

And I'll see what I can do about getting some reliable dimensions - I've gotta hammer some other projects and things away before I can make a real commitment to accurately sizing this thing - but i wont leave you guys hanging too long !

Why is that so?!? When we talked about the Hook movie, it's always "Hey, you know the actor who played Rufio is already dead..."

So, he's alive? Why that rumor is still alive?!?

The character died, yeah, I saw the movie... :) So, to make it clear: This is the original actor who played Rufio in the Hook movie?!? :wacko

Anyone got any ideas for making the blade ? Something rather inexpensive - bu not wood - something metal, but nothing that costs more than like $60

A local metal yard would probably be cheapest, but I've seen aluminum stock (and used it to make a Highlander katana years ago), at Home Depot/Lowes/Ace Hardware, whichever is closest to you. It would probably work perfectly for this.

I'm making one right now and expect less than $30 in materials. I'll post pics when I'm done. Thanks so much for the pics Mooniteman.
