Hero "Odd Job" hat from Goldfinger & other hero props at auction

Re: Hero "Odd Job" hat from Goldfinger - got the cash?

I'm by no means an expert or a purist, but don't a lot of collectors of screen-used props frown upon things like adding rivets to hold it together? Not only is it not original material - it even changes the appearance from the screen-used version.

I am no expert on Bond, but I believe there are serious question marks over the authenticity of this piece. A large number of items have already been pulled, the questionable Superman I/II costume is also in this auction.

:confused That's news to me! Isn't THE SPY BOYS one of our resident Bond experts? Maybe Rylo or even SD STUDIOS could chime in... Hopefully this isn't another case of the fake Ruby Red Slippers and counterfeit TOS communicators... :unsure

I initially didn't check out the seller's other items, and this particular one I have a soft spot for in me'ticker:

If I had 100% confidence in its provenance, this hat is actually in a range that I could afford... It strikes me as extremely odd that such an iconic hat worn by the lead actor in Kubric's greatest film is only starting at 2% of the Bond hat... :confused Any chance someone can post a hi-res screen shot or still of Malcolm in the hat? The front of the rim on the auction hat is frayed, but it's only a tell if the hero hat carried this defect during the film or in still production photography.

Sorry to hijack my own thread! :redface

On Friday afternoon, February 15, Guernsey's was alerted to the fact that certain items sold by another auction house had been called into question regarding authenticity issues. As this is being written, it appears that a small number of those items (approximately 16, or fewer than 2% of the auction lots) may have entered the Pugliese Collection from that source. Potential bidders should be assured that Guernsey's is immediately investigating the matter and will take the proper course of action. For those interested, Guernsey's website will contain the most up-to-date information regarding this matter. Thank you.

They have so far ignored my concerns regarding the very dodgy Superman I/II costume.

Loads of the stuff has come from Profiles and we know how conscientious they are!:lol

thats a mythbusters prop....isn't it ? :rolleyes

Re: Hero "Odd Job" hat from Goldfinger - got the cash?

The hat with the rivets was a promotional hat that the actor who played Oddjob used to take on tour...it was never screen used.

Hmmm interesting stuff. That would explain alot! :thumbsup

Hey,
The Indiana Jones whip that is listed seems fishy to me. The autograph on the typed paper looks wrong to me. His autograph could have changed over the years but I've compared it to an MR Falcon SE auto I have and it doesn't look the same.
Also this stuff was featured on the Today show a few weeks back. They had a lot of these pieces on the show. The owner of the collection also had ruby's actual revolver that was used to kill oswold. Ebay probably wouldn't allow that to be auctioned on their site.
